Netflix may take away with one hand whilst giving with the other, as they announce ‘The Night Agent‘ has been handed an early Season 3 renewal, but also that the Season 2 premiere date has shifted from 2024 to “Early 2025.”
Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent is a sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centring on a low-level FBI Agent who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings — until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast-moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads all the way to the Oval Office.
The second season picks up after Peter’s (Gabriel Basso) efforts to save the president earned him the opportunity to become a Night Agent. But working in the secretive organization of Night Action will push him into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply.
Season two of the drama sees Gabriel Basso (‘The Big C’) reprising his role as Peter, alongside Luciane Buchanan (‘The New Legends of Monkey’), as cybersecurity entrepreneur Rose Larkin. They’re joined by Amanda Warren (The Leftovers, Dickinson), Arienne Mandi (The L Word: Generation Q), Louis Herthum (Westworld), Berto Colon (Power Book II: Ghost), Brittany Snow (Almost Family) and Teddy Sears (The Flash, Masters of Sex).
If you’re wondering why Netflix has been so fast renewing the series before season two has even aired, as we mentioned in the earlier post about the cancellation of ‘KAOS’, Netflix is all about the numbers, and season one’s numbers were huge! It was the streamer’s most-watched series in 2023 (by views) and currently ranks as the 7th Most Popular English series on Netflix of all time, with a staggering 98.2M views in its first 91 days. In its first month, it was #1 in the Global Top 10 for four consecutive weeks and reached the #1 spot in the Top 10 for 87 countries.
Season 2 was originally slated to air in 2024, but they have now shoved that back a little into 2025. Season 3 will begin a production unit in Istanbul at the end of 2024 before returning to film in New York in 2025.
