ITVX has acquired the rights to all 4 Seasons of the drama ‘Snowpiercer‘, which includes the premiere of the final 4th Season which has never aired in the UK before.
Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, ‘Snowpiercer’ centres on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out.
The series stars Daveed Diggs, Jennifer Connelly, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Rowan Blanchard, Roberto Urbina and Sean Bean. New additions for the final season include Clark Gregg (‘Agents Of SHIELD’) and Michael Aronov (‘Billions’, ‘The Blacklist’)
The first three seasons of the drama originally aired on Netflix in the UK and began airing on US network TNT back in 2021. However, when Warner Bros merged with Discovery in April 2022, all original scripted content development was halted at TNT, so they announced Season 4 would be the last. Then in January 2023 it was announced the (now-completed) season would not air on TNT at all, but would be shopped to other networks. Jump forward to March 2024, and it was announced AMC had picked up Season 4, with them airing the final season on July 2024.
It appears all that messing around caused Netflix to drop the drama or lose the rights in the UK. Tomorrow Studios, which is a subsidiary of ITV, co-produces the drama, with ITV handling the international distribution, so it makes sense that the entire series would now come to ITVX.
‘Snowpiercer’ is executive produced by Paul Zbyszewski, Christoph Schrewe, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, Matthew O’Connor, Ben Rosenblatt and Scott Derrickson, and the original film’s producers Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho, Miky Lee, Jinnie Choi, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi. The show is produced by Tomorrow Studios, along with CJ Entertainment.
‘Snowpiercer‘ Seasons 1 to 4 will premiere on ITVX as a boxset in the UK from Sunday, 9th March 2025.
