Marvel has released the first trailer for ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, which is set to kick off “Phase Six” of the MCU, and introduces Marvel’s “first family”.
We still don’t know a whole lot about the plot of the film but it does introduce us to Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch. We also know it is set in an alternate version of the 1960s, and we get a little glimpse of the “big bad”, Galactus, voiced by Ralph Ineson, and we know Julia Garner is playing his “herald”, Silver Surfer.
Other cast includes Paul Walter-Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne and Sarah Niles, although their roles have not yet been revealed. Robert Downey Jr. is also expected to appear (even if it’s just in a post-credit scene) in his new MCY role as Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom.
The trailer gives this lovely retro vibe, which is something nice and different for the MCU. We get to see a very comic-accurate version of The Thing, along with seeing Sue Storm’s invisibility powers, and the Human Torch “flame on”. Interesting, they avoided showing Mister Fantastic’s stretching powers for some reason…
The movie is directed by ‘WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman with a script by Ric Pearson, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. Marvel boss Kevin Feige produces for Marvel Studios.
‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ arrives in cinemas on Friday, 25th July 2025.
