Netflix has released a trailer for brand new medical procedural drama ‘Pulse‘ from Emmy-winner Carlton Cuse and writer Zoe Robyn, starring Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell, which premieres in April.
While the staff of Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center navigate medical emergencies, young ER doc Danielle Simms is unexpectedly promoted to Chief Resident amidst the fallout of her own provocative romantic relationship.
Willa Fitzgerald (‘Scream’, ‘Reacher’) takes the lead role of Dr. Danielle “Danny” Simms, a third-year resident and rising star on Maguire Medical Center’s medical team. Danny is unexpectedly promoted when Maguire’s respected chief resident Dr. Xander Phillips, played by Colin Woodell (‘The Continental’, ‘The Flight Attendant’), is suspended. Danny and Phillips must find a way to work together — even as the bombshell details of their complicated romance begin to spill out…
While Danny’s deep empathy makes her an exceptional doctor in training, her brash and self-sabotaging nature complicates her upward trajectory. Meanwhile, Xander comes from one of Miami’s most powerful medical families, and is (at the beginning…) the highly confident, respected, and charismatic chief resident of emergency medicine who nevertheless gets caught up in the Maguire drama.
As Danny and Phillips try to figure out where they stand, a hurricane bears down on Miami, creating an onslaught of trauma cases. Maguire goes into lockdown and the rest of the ER is left to process the fallout of Danny and Phillips’ relationship. For this tight-knit group of doctors, saving patients’ lives is often less complicated than living their own.
Joining Fitzgerald and Woodell on the drama are Jack Bannon (‘Pennyworth’) as Tom Cole, a second-year surgical resident, Tom is a witty and charming Brit who came to Maguire for the excellent trauma program, but also for the lifestyle that Miami offers; Jessie T. Usher (‘The Boys’) as Sam Elijah, a third-year emergency medicine resident. Born and raised in the Florida Panhandle, he’s a thoughtful and altruistic doctor who, under his calm and considered demeanour, has a competitive edge; Chelsea Muirhead (‘Warrior’) as Sophie Chen, a surgical intern, who is smart, capable, and willing to endure anything in her quest to become a great surgeon; Daniela Nieves (‘Vampire Academy’) as Camila Perez, a third-year medical student who, despite long hours and an endless workload, always manages to stay optimistic; And Jessy Yates (‘Law & Order SVU’), a second-year emergency medicine resident and a wheelchair user, who is self-assured and introspective… and also happens to be Danny’s younger sibling.
The show also stars Justina Machado (‘Six Feet Under’, ‘ER’, ‘Superstore’) as Natalie Cruz, a brilliant and politically savvy doctor who oversees both administration and medicine in her role as the chair of surgery and emergency medicine; Santiago Segura (‘Walker: Independence’) as Gabriel Moreno, an ER nurse who is a highly competent team player – but not always easy to impress; Jessica Rothe (‘Virgin River’, ‘La La Land’) as Cass Himmelstein, a charismatic and charming senior ER nurse, who knows what she wants for her life and has a plan to get it; Néstor Carbonell (‘The Morning Show’, ‘Shogun’, ‘Lost’) as Dr. Ruben Soriano, a respected and sometimes feared senior surgeon, Ruben’s commitment and passion have led him to prioritize his job above all else, and he’s as demanding of his residents as he is of himself; Arturo Del Puerto (‘For All Mankind’, ‘Big Sky’) as Luis Dominguez, the ER’s Charge Nurse, who is unflappable amidst the chaos without sacrificing his signature wit and is beloved among his staff; And Ash Santos (‘American Horror Story’, ‘Mayor of Kingstown’) as Nia Washington, a confident and scrappy Miami-Dade County EMT from a large, close-knit family.
Pulse comes from creator, showrunner, and executive producer Zoe Robyn (‘The Equalizer’) and showrunner and executive veteran producer Carlton Cuse (‘Lost’, ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’, ‘Locke and Key’… and lots more!). Kate Dennis (The Handmaid’s Tale, New Amsterdam) serves as Director and Executive Producer on Episodes 101 and 102. Bradley Gardner, Emma Forman and Michael Klick also exec produce.
‘Pulse‘ Season 1 premieres Thursday, 3rd April 2025 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
