Ella Purnell (Fallout, Yellowjackets) is back, and her kill list is getting longer! Sky has released a brand-new trailer for Season 2 of its deliciously dark comedy thriller ‘Sweetpea‘, which returns to Sky and NOW this November. And if Rhiannon Lewis thought her life was complicated before, things are about to get a whole lot messier!
For anyone who missed the first season, ‘Sweetpea’ follows Rhiannon Lewis, a quiet, overlooked young woman who spent her life being ignored, underestimated and generally treated like a doormat. Unfortunately for the people around her, she eventually snapped and discovered that murder was a surprisingly effective way of taking back control of her life. Of course, that particular coping mechanism comes with a few complications…
Season 2 picks up with Rhiannon attempting to navigate her increasingly chaotic existence. She’s landed a promotion at the Carnsham Gazette, there’s a tempting new romantic interest on the scene, and things might actually be looking up. Well, apart from the small problem of a copycat killer who threatens to expose her own murderous activities.
With the body count rising and her carefully constructed world increasingly at risk of falling apart, Rhiannon finds herself confronting an uncomfortable question. Was her seemingly perfect ex, AJ, actually right about her? Is she a monster? Given what happened at the end of Season 1, that’s probably a question worth exploring!
Joining Purnell this season is Rish Shah (Overcompensating, Joy) as Gabriel, Rhiannon’s new romantic interest. Tamsin Greig (Riot Women, Friday Night Dinner) also arrives as Liv, AJ’s mother, which could make life particularly awkward for our favourite homicidal journalist.
Meanwhile, Taj Atwal (Riot Women, Line of Duty) plays Freya, Rhiannon’s formidable new boss at the Carnsham Gazette, while Jenny Walser (Heartstopper, Star City) joins as new friend Daisy. Annabelle Davis (The Dumping Ground) also joins the cast as Bella, who works in the police ‘admin’ department.
There are plenty of familiar faces returning too, including Jon Pointing (Big Boys, Run Away) as Craig, Jeremy Swift (Ted Lasso, Downton Abbey) as Norman, Leah Harvey (Foundation, The Scurry) as Marina, Ingrid Oliver (The Thursday Murder Club, Doctor Who) as DI St John, Nitin Ganatra (Mr Bigstuff, Sexy Beast) as Rory, and Alexandra Dowling (Emily, Game of Thrones) as Rhiannon’s sister Seren.
Inspired by the cult novels from CJ Skuse, ‘Sweetpea’ takes the familiar idea of someone finally standing up for themselves and pushes it to a wonderfully twisted extreme. The first season blended pitch-black comedy with psychological thrills, helped enormously by Purnell’s performance as a character who can switch from painfully awkward to genuinely terrifying in a heartbeat.
The new trailer suggests that Rhiannon’s attempts to balance her improving personal and professional life with her rather unconventional hobby aren’t going to get any easier. And adding another killer into the mix seems unlikely to improve matters!
The series is produced by See-Saw Films in association with Sky Studios.
For viewers in the US, Season 2 is currently expected to arrive on STARZ in early 2027, with an exact premiere date still to be announced.
‘Sweetpea‘ Season 2 premieres Thursday, 26th November 2026 on Sky and NOW, with all episodes available to stream.
