‘Heartstopper’ To End With Final Movie On Netflix

by Dave Elliott

Heartstopper will be coming to an end, as Netflix announces a final feature-length film to round off Nick and Charlie’s story.

The series, which has run for three seasons, follows the old tale – Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love. When gentle Charlie and rugby-loving Nick meet at secondary school, they quickly discover that their unlikely friendship is blossoming into an unexpected romance. Charlie, Nick and their circle of friends must navigate the ever-relatable journey of self-discovery and acceptance, supporting each other as they learn to find their most authentic selves.

“I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story,” says ‘Heartstopper’ creator, writer, executive producer, and graphic novelist Alice Oseman. “I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”

The feature film will pick up after the Season 3 finale, which saw Nick, Charlie, and many of their friends take their relationships to a new level. It will explore how inevitable milestones affect the maturing characters. Can first loves really last forever? Keep reading to find out what lies in store.

Oseman writes the film, as she has done for every episode of the series. Filming this Summer, it’ll be an adaptation of Oseman’s upcoming sixth and final Heartstopper graphic novel, which she is hoping will be released before the movie comes out.

After Season 3, the couple is inseparable. But, with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, Nick and Charlie’s friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on.

Kit Connor and Joe Locke will return as Nick and Charlie, directed by Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice), and written by Alice Oseman. Oseman EPs alongside Patrick Walters, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Euros Lyn, Locke, and Connor.

We don’t yet know when ‘Heartstopper‘ The Movie will premiere on Netflix, but it begins filming this Summer. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
