CBS Orders ‘Yellowstone’ Sequel ‘Y: Marshals’ Starring Luke Grimes

by Dave Elliott

We’re getting another ‘Yellowstone’ spin-off, but this time it has been ordered for CBS. Called Y: Marshals, it sees Luke Grimes reprise his role as Kayce Dutton, and will be more procedural in nature.

The drama sees Kayce (Grimes) combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defence in the region’s war on violence.

When we last saw Kayce in the main ‘Yellowstone’ series finale (SPOILERS), he signed the land over to Rainwater’s tribe for $1.25 an acre, the price he says his ancestor, James Dutton (played by Tim McGraw in ‘1883’), paid for it when the family settled there. However, he put a condition on the sale to say it can never be developed, and he, his wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and his son Tate (Brecken Merrill), would be allowed to remain in a house they built in a small area of the land.

What makes this rather different from the other various ‘Yellowstone’ spin-offs is that it is a procedural direct for CBS in the USA, rather than the streaming service Paramount+, which is home to the other shows. The person shepherding the new show is Spencer Hudnut, who was EP and one of the showrunners on Paramount’s ‘SEAL Team’.

This is not the only new spin-off in the works from the ‘Yellowstone’ brand. There is also ‘6666’, set in the present day on the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas; ‘1944’, which is a sequel series to ‘1923’; And an untitled spin-off starring Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, who would reprise their respective roles as Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton, elder sister of Kayce. These are all classed as “in development” so may not go to series.

‘Y: Marshals’ will be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios with ‘Yellowstone’ overlord Taylor Sheridan, along with David C. Glasser executive producing for 101 Studios as well as John Linson, Art Linson, Hudnut, Luke Grimes, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin and Bob Yari. Hudnut will serve as executive producer and showrunner. The series will be distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

We don’t technically know officially where ‘Y: Marshals‘ will land in the UK (although I would be shocked if it isn’t Paramount+ UK…) The series is set to premiere in Spring 2026 on CBS in the USA. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
