Mike Colter Set To Lead Legal Drama ‘Cupertino’ From ‘Evil’ Creators, In Development At CBS

‘Cupertino’, a new legal drama from Robert and Michelle King, is currently in development at CBS, with Mike Colter attached to star. The project marks another reunion for the creative team behind ‘Evil’, ‘The Good Wife’ and ‘The Good Fight’.

While not officially ordered to series, ‘Cupertino’ took a major step forward in May when CBS gave the go-ahead for a writers’ room to produce 12 additional scripts. The move followed strong internal buzz around the pilot script. The writers’ room is expected to open later this autumn, after Robert King finishes directing an episode of ‘Elsbeth’ Season 3.

Set in Silicon Valley, the drama is described as a “David vs. Goliath” story. Colter plays a lawyer fired by a tech start-up that attempts to cheat him out of his stock options. Rather than backing down, he teams up with another recently fired attorney to take on the tech elite, fighting back on behalf of those who have been exploited by the system.

The series is being developed by CBS Studios, with the Kings writing and executive producing via their King Size Productions banner. Liz Glotzer also serves as an executive producer.

The Kings have a long-running and successful relationship with CBS and Paramount, which has seen multiple acclaimed series come to life. That track record certainly boosts ‘Cupertino’s’ chances, though with the Skydance takeover of Paramount currently shaking up the industry, it’s still unclear how development pipelines may shift moving forward.

Mike Colter has been a frequent collaborator with the Kings, originally appearing as drug lord Lemond Bishop in ‘The Good Wife’ and reprising the role in ‘The Good Fight’. He most recently starred as priest and demonologist David Acosta in ‘Evil’, a role that earned him two Critics Choice nominations for Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Outside of his work with the Kings, Colter is well known for playing Marvel’s Luke Cage in the Netflix series, and has recently appeared in The Union alongside Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg, and the action thriller Plane with Gerard Butler.

‘Cupertino’ is currently classed as “in development” so may, or may not, make it to series. We’ll let you know when we hear more!
