‘Robin Hood’: MGM+ Drama Gets Premiere Date And First Trailer

by Dave Elliott

Sherwood Forest is about to get busy again. MGM+ has revealed the first trailer for Robin Hood, along with news that the new 10-episode series will arrive this November with a two-episode launch.

This time around, the man with the bow is played by newcomer Jack Patten, taking on Rob, a Saxon forester’s son whose life is turned upside down after the Norman invasion of England. Rob’s journey from ordinary man to leader of an outlaw rebellion is entwined with Marian, played by Lauren McQueen (The Mill, The Queen’s Gambit), a Norman lord’s daughter who prefers court intrigue to embroidery. Their romance drives the story as they take very different routes to fight the same corrupt system.

The series has pulled together a heavyweight cast. Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, Shardlake) takes up the mantle of the Sheriff of Nottingham, which means audiences will inevitably start a sweepstake on how long he lasts this time. Connie Nielsen (Gladiator, Wonder Woman 1984) steps into the armour of Eleanor of Aquitaine, one of the most formidable queens in history, while Lydia Peckham (Cowboy Bebop) and Steven Waddington (The Last of the Mohicans, Jamestown) add even more intrigue.

Showrunner John Glenn (SEAL Team) and director Jonathan English (The Ark) are aiming for what they call a “grounded and gritty origin story.” Filmed in Serbia, the series promises sweeping romance, political plotting, and plenty of steel-on-steel action.

Of course, Robin Hood is no stranger to reinvention. UK audiences have seen him as a mystical hero in the cult favourite Robin of Sherwood back in the 1980s, a comedy side character in the 90s kids’ gem Maid Marian and Her Merry Men, and a swaggering outlaw in the 2006 BBC dramedy that ran for three seasons. MGM+ looks set to carve out its own place in that lineage, bringing a mix of realism, romance, and rebellion to the age-old story.

Robin Hood’ premieres Sunday, 2nd November 2025 on MGM+ in the USA, UK, Italy, Germany, Spain, Latin America, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. The series begins with two episodes, before continuing weekly through to the finale in late December.
