Disney+ Drops First Look and Confirms Premiere Date for ‘A Thousand Blows’ Season 2

by Dave Elliott

Disney+ has revealed the first look at the highly anticipated second season of A Thousand Blows, the BAFTA Award-winning drama from creator Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), which punches its way back onto screens this January.

Following critical acclaim for the first season, which earned rave reviews from outlets including The Guardian, The Times, and Empire, the story returns to the brutal, fast-changing streets of 1880s London with Malachi Kirby (Small Axe), Erin Doherty (Adolescence), and Stephen Graham (Boiling Point) all reprising their roles.

Season two picks up a year after the bloody events of the first chapter. Hezekiah Moscow (Kirby) is a shadow of his former self, while Sugar Goodson (Graham) finds himself estranged from his family and drowning in drink. Just as Wapping seems ready to collapse under the weight of its own misery, Mary Carr (Doherty) storms back into town with her fiercely loyal second, Alice Diamond, determined to rebuild her gang and reclaim her crown. As ever, Mary’s plan is bold, dangerous, and destined to drag everyone she loves into the fight of their lives.

The returning cast includes James Nelson-Joyce (Blue Lights), Darci Shaw (The Irregulars), Hannah Walters (Boiling Point), Nadia Albina, Morgan Hilaire, Jemma Carlton, Caoilfhionn Dunne, Jason Tobin (Warrior), Susan Lynch, Daniel Mays (Line of Duty), Gary Lewis, Aliyah Odoffin, and Robert Glenister. New arrivals for the second round include Ned Dennehy (Bad Sisters) as Bull Jeremy and Catherine McCormack (Sherwood) as Sophie Lyons.

Behind the scenes, Knight returns as writer and executive producer, joined by Yasmin Joseph, Harlan Davies, Insook Chappell, and Ameir Brown on the writing team. Katrin Gebbe directs episodes 1 to 3, while Dionne Edwards helms 4 to 6. Executive producers include Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters for Matriarch Productions, Damian Keogh and Kate Lewis for The Story Collective, Tom Miller and Sam Myer for Water & Power Productions, and Jonny Richards for Disney+. Professor David Olusoga also returns as executive producer, bringing his trademark historical insight to the series.

With boxing, betrayal, and the ever-looming fight for survival, season two looks set to deliver another bruising dose of Victorian grit and heart.

A Thousand Blows’ Season 2 premieres Friday, 9th January 2026, on Disney+ in the UK and Hulu in the US.
