‘Trigger Point’ Season 3 Locks In Explosive ITV October Premiere As Vicky McClure Returns As Lana Washington

by Dave Elliott

Brace for detonation. Trigger Point is officially primed to return for its third high-tension season on ITV1 and STV, with the full series also streaming on ITVX and STV Player. Vicky McClure (Line of Duty, This Is England) is back in the thick of the action as Expo Lana Washington, leading her team through another nerve-shredding run of missions where one wrong move could mean disaster.

This new season thrusts Lana and her fellow bomb disposal experts into one of their most dangerous investigations yet. When a series of coordinated attacks hit London, the Expos are pulled into a sinister web of revenge, politics, and betrayal. Working closely with the Counter Terrorism Unit, Lana is forced to question everything she knows — including who she can trust — as the team races against time to uncover the identity of a new and elusive bomber.

As ever, the series doesn’t just trade in pyrotechnics and adrenaline. At its heart, ‘Trigger Point’ continues to explore the personal toll of heroism. For Lana, still bearing the scars of past missions, the new crisis threatens to reignite old traumas just as she begins to rebuild her life. Expect more of the show’s trademark blend of explosive action, psychological tension, and grounded humanity that has made it one of ITV’s most successful recent dramas.

Joining McClure in the returning cast are Eric Shango (On The Edge), Nabil Elouahabi (Blue Lights, Unforgotten), Natalie Simpson (North Sea Connection), and Maanuv Thiara (DI Ray, Landscapers), alongside guest star Jason Flemyng (Gemma Bovery, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels). Behind the camera, the series continues its impressive creative pedigree with Chris Brandon (Bloodlands) writing, and directors Jamie Donoghue (Doctor Who, A Discovery of Witches) and Audrey Cooke (Trigger Point, DI Ray) helming the episodes.

Produced by HTM Television in association with All3Media International, the executive team once again includes Jed Mercurio (Line of Duty), Daniel Walker (Boat Story, The Tourist), Jessica Sharkey (Breathtaking, Derry Girls), Chris Brandon, and McClure herself.

Since its explosive debut, ‘Trigger Point’ has cemented itself as one of ITV’s crown jewels. The previous season averaged over 8 million viewers and racked up 30 million streams on ITVX, second only to Mr Bates vs The Post Office as the network’s most-watched drama of 2024. The series even received a royal visit earlier this year, with Her Majesty The Queen touring the set to celebrate ITV’s 70th anniversary.

With a fourth season already greenlit for 2026, it’s clear Lana Washington’s story is far from over. Fans can look forward to another season of tense standoffs, edge-of-your-seat set pieces, and that perfectly calibrated mix of grit and humanity that keeps audiences coming back for more.

Trigger Point’ Season 3 premieres Sunday, 26th October 2025 at 9pm on ITV1 and STV, with the full series available to stream on ITVX and STV Player.
