Paramount+ has released the official trailer for its brand new series ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy‘, the long-awaited coming-of-age story set in the 32nd century of the Star Trek universe. The series will launch with two episodes this January before moving to a weekly release schedule.
Unveiled during the Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic Con, the reveal also came with a fun surprise: Stephen Colbert will voice the Academy’s “Digital Dean of Students,” delivering daily announcements and crisis alerts to the next generation of cadets. The news was confirmed in a special video from Colbert himself… and yes, it’s as gloriously weird as you’d expect.
The panel featured cast members Holly Hunter (Top of the Lake), Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, Bella Shepard (Wolf Pack), Zoë Steiner, and Paul Giamatti (Billions), joined by co-showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau (Nancy Drew).
‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ follows a new class of hopeful cadets united by their shared dream of exploration, discovery, and service. Under the demanding eye of their instructors, they’ll face everything from interstellar rivalries to unexpected romance — all while a mysterious new threat looms over both the Academy and the Federation itself.
The series also features Tig Notaro (Discovery), Robert Picardo (Voyager), Oded Fehr (Star Trek: Discovery), Mary Wiseman (Star Trek: Discovery), and Gina Yashere (Bob Hearts Abishola), with Paul Giamatti appearing in a recurring guest role.
Behind the scenes, Kurtzman and Landau serve as co-showrunners and executive producers alongside Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber. The premiere episode is written by Violo and directed by Kurtzman. The series is produced by CBS Studios with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ will be available to stream exclusively on Paramount+ in the UK, US, Canada, and multiple international territories.
