Netflix has dropped the full trailer for ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5, and it looks like Hawkins is heading for one last showdown against Vecna in the biggest, darkest chapter yet.
Set in the autumn of 1987, the new season finds the gang reunited at last, but their home has become a nightmare. The government has thrown the town into military quarantine, Big Brother cameras watch every move, and Vecna is back to finish what he started.
Co-creator Ross Duffer told Tudum, “We usually set up their normal life and how they’re going about school, and then we introduce the supernatural element. But in this case, this season is sprinting from the start.” His brother Matt Duffer added that “nothing in Hawkins is normal anymore.”
Executive producer and director Shawn Levy promises both scale and heart. “The action is next level, the visual effects are next level, but I’m also happy to say that the emotional center remains the same. Even as the storytelling becomes more epic, it’s always anchored in these characters that we love.”
Among those characters are the now battle-worn heroes who’ve been with us since day one. Millie Bobby Brown (Enola Holmes) says Eleven is “in training mode… in a warrior state,” determined to protect her friends at all costs. Gaten Matarazzo (The Who Was? Show) notes that Dustin is “in a bit of a funk” after the horrors of last season, while Caleb McLaughlin (Shooter) adds that “everyone is on edge, and we’re all just trying to keep hope alive.”
Noah Schnapp (The Tutor) explains that Will is back in Hawkins this time, with the group “all in one place” and “the same objective.” Meanwhile, Sadie Sink (The Whale) teases that Max’s fate still hangs in the balance after her near-death experience, and Finn Wolfhard (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) says Mike is back in leadership mode, plotting the party’s final move against Vecna.
The official synopsis confirms that the season will pick up immediately after the events of Season 4:
“With Hawkins scarred by the opening of the Rifts at the end of Season 4, our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But Vecna has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before.”
Returning cast includes Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice), David Harbour (Violent Night), Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer (Velvet Buzzsaw), Charlie Heaton (The New Mutants), Joe Keery (Fargo), Maya Hawke (Asteroid City), Priah Ferguson (The Curse), Brett Gelman (Fleabag), Jamie Campbell Bower (Twilight), Cara Buono (Mad Men), and Linda Hamilton (The Terminator).
‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 releases in two volumes: the first four episodes arrive on Wednesday, 26th November 2025, followed by three episodes at Christmas, and the grand finale on Wednesday, 31st December 2025.
‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 premieres Wednesday, 26th November 2025 (1am on Thursday, 27th in the UK with the time difference) on Netflix.
