This week on Geektown Radio, Dave is joined by Gray for Episode 489, and it is a packed one. The pair dive into the biggest TV, film and entertainment news of the week, including the Oscars 2026 winners, the newly revealed ‘Firefly‘ animated series, the recovery of two missing ‘Doctor Who’ episodes, and the surprise news that Michael Sheen will be taking over ‘House of Games’. It is also Gray’s final show for a little while before wedding plans and exam season take over, so naturally the episode turns into a properly stuffed mix of TV reviews, film chat, industry news and a few sideways tangents along the way.
On the review side, Dave and Gray catch up on a big pile of recent viewing. That includes ‘Young Sherlock‘, ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy‘, ‘The Capture‘, ‘Solar Opposites‘, ‘Gone‘, ‘The Secret Genius’, ‘Vanished‘, ‘The Floor’, ‘Hijack‘, ‘Down Cemetery Road‘, ‘How To Get To Heaven From Belfast‘, ‘Scrubs‘, ‘Ted‘ and ‘9-1-1: Nashville‘. So yes, it is one of those weeks where the watchlists are doing absolutely no one any favours.
A big chunk of the episode is dedicated to the 98th Academy Awards, with Dave and Gray breaking down the biggest winners and standout moments from the Oscars ceremony. They discuss ‘One Battle After Another’ dominating the night, ‘Sinners’ making a huge impact, Jessie Buckley’s Best Actress win, Michael B. Jordan taking Best Actor, the first ever Casting Oscar, the first female cinematography winner, and the rare tie in Best Live Action Short. If you want a quick Geektown-style Oscars catch-up without wading through three hours of acceptance speeches, this bit has you covered.
There is also plenty of TV and film news to get stuck into. The show covers the stalled ‘Buffy’ reboot, a possible ‘Fallout 3’ remaster, the discovery of two long-lost ‘Doctor Who’ episodes from ‘The Daleks’ Master Plan’, Riz Ahmed’s new Prime Video comedy ‘Bait‘, and the reveal that ‘Firefly’ is being developed as an animated series with much of the original cast returning. Add in a ‘Family Guy’ spin-off focused on ‘Stewie‘, plus the latest renewals, cancellations and pick-ups, and it is a fairly ridiculous amount of geeky TV news for one episode.
And because Geektown Radio would not be Geektown Radio without at least one bit of delightfully British telly chat sneaking in, Dave and Gray also talk about ‘Richard Osman’s House of Games’ and what Michael Sheen stepping in as host might mean for the future of the show. It is the sort of casting choice nobody predicted, which is usually a good sign.
So if you want one podcast episode covering Oscars winners, ‘Firefly’ news, missing ‘Doctor Who’ episodes, ‘Buffy’ reboot fallout, ‘Young Sherlock’ review chat and the week’s biggest TV renewals and cancellations, Episode 489 should do the trick nicely.
