Prime Video has released the official trailer for ‘Bait‘, a new comedy series created by and starring Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal, The Night Of), which follows a struggling actor whose life spins wildly out of control when he lands the audition of a lifetime.
The six-episode series centres on Shah Latif (Ahmed), an actor whose career has yet to take off. Suddenly, he finds himself with one last chance to break through. The problem? The role he’s auditioning for appears to be the most famous spy in cinema history.
Yes, that Bond.
Across four increasingly chaotic days, Shah’s life spirals as his family, friends, and ex-lover all weigh in on whether he’s the right man for the job. The trailer leans heavily into the pressure and absurdity of the situation, as Shah becomes the centre of a growing storm of opinions, expectations, and public scrutiny.
There’s also a slightly meta twist to the premise. With Amazon now firmly in the Bond business, the idea of a Prime Video series poking fun at the audition process for the iconic spy suddenly feels even more timely.
Back in 2025, Amazon MGM Studios gained creative control of the James Bond franchise after long-time producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli stepped back from day-to-day decision-making. The pair remain co-owners through a joint venture with Amazon, but the streaming giant now leads the creative direction of the franchise moving forward.
Since then, Amazon MGM has begun shaping the next era of 007. Denis Villeneuve (Dune, Blade Runner 2049) is attached to direct the next Bond film, with Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, SAS Rogue Heroes) writing the script. A new actor to take over the iconic role has yet to be announced.
While ‘Bait’ is very much a comedy rather than an official Bond project, the show’s premise of a chaotic audition for cinema’s most famous secret agent feels like it’s deliberately playing in that same cultural space.
Alongside Ahmed, the cast includes Guz Khan (Man Like Mobeen), Sheeba Chaddha (Sacred Games), Sajid Hasan (Mere Paas Tum Ho), Aasiya Shah (Raised by Wolves), Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You), and Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy).
The series is created by Ahmed, who also serves as executive producer and writer. He executive produces alongside Allie Moore for Left Handed, with Jake Fuller on behalf of Jax Media. Ben Karlin (Modern Family) also executive produces and serves as showrunner alongside Ahmed. The series is directed by Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) and Tom George (This Country), and is produced by Jax Media and Amazon MGM Studios.
‘Bait’ Season 1 premieres Wednesday, 25th March 2026 on Prime Video.
