Marvel’s ‘Wonder Man’ Renewed For Season 2 On Disney+

by Dave Elliott

Marvel is heading back to Hollywood, as Wonder Man has officially been renewed for a second season on Disney+. The series, which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen) as aspiring actor Simon Williams, will return alongside Ben Kingsley (Sexy Beast) reprising his MCU role as Trevor Slattery.

The comedy-drama, which landed on Disney+ earlier this year, put a very different spin on the superhero genre by mixing Marvel action with a satirical look at the film and TV business. Rather than throwing Simon straight into full-costume heroics, the first season followed his attempts to make it in Hollywood while quietly discovering he had powers of his own. Disney has also confirmed that co-creators Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest are returning for the new season, with Guest back as showrunner and executive producer, and Cretton returning as director and executive producer.

That offbeat premise helped make ‘Wonder Man’ feel a bit different from the rest of Marvel’s Disney+ line-up. Set partly behind the scenes of a superhero movie production, it leaned into the absurdity of fame, performance and the entertainment industry, while still keeping one foot firmly in the MCU. The first season also brought back Trevor Slattery in a much bigger role, giving Kingsley plenty of room to steal scenes again.

There’s no word yet on when ‘Wonder Man’ Season 2 will arrive, but the quick renewal suggests Marvel and Disney are clearly happy with how the first season has landed. With Simon’s story only just getting started, there’s plenty of room for the show to push even further into both the Hollywood satire and the superhero chaos next time around.

Wonder Man’ Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date but will stream on Disney+ in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
