‘The Hunting Party’ Cancelled By NBC After 2 Seasons, But Could Be Shopped Elsewhere

by Dave Elliott

NBC has cancelled The Hunting Party after two seasons, although the crime thriller may not be entirely dead just yet, as Universal Television is expected to shop the drama to other outlets.

Created by JJ Bailey, ‘The Hunting Party’ stars Melissa Roxburgh (Manifest) as Rebecca “Bex” Henderson, a former FBI profiler brought in to help track down some of America’s most dangerous killers after they escape from a secret prison facility known as The Pit.

The cancellation is not a huge shock, sadly. ‘The Hunting Party’ had been the last remaining 2025-26 broadcast series still waiting on a decision from NBC, after the network delayed making the call while it looked at the show’s performance across both linear and streaming. However, once a show is left hanging after the upfronts, the odds are rarely great.

It is also something of the final hangover from NBC’s May bloodbath, which had already seen the network axe fellow sophomore drama ‘Brilliant Minds’ alongside comedy ‘Stumble’. NBC has a particularly tight schedule going into the 2026-27 season, with sports taking up a lot of space, and the network making room for four new scripted shows: dramas ‘The Rockford Files’ and ‘Line of Fire’, plus comedies ‘Sunset P.I.’ and ‘Newlyweds’.

The drama had performed better on streaming than it had on linear television, which helped keep it in contention for longer than might otherwise have been the case. Season 1 also landed on Netflix in the US earlier this year, giving it a useful boost, while Peacock was said to have been another factor in the decision-making process. However, after some number-crunching, neither a third season on NBC nor a move to Peacock as an original series came together.

That said, Universal Television is expected to shop ‘The Hunting Party’ around, with Netflix likely to be one of the more obvious places to try, given it already licenses the series in the US. Shopping a cancelled show to other networks rarely works, but this is one of those cases where you can see a possible path through. After all, Netflix famously saved ‘Manifest’, Melissa Roxburgh’s previous series, after NBC cancelled it, so it’s not impossible they might decide to take another punt here, even if it is only for a final season. So there is at least a small glimmer of hope for fans who want more answers from The Pit.

In the UK, ‘The Hunting Party’ airs on U&Alibi, where Season 1 premiered last autumn. Season 2 is currently due to arrive here this July.

The Hunting Party’ Season 2 does not yet have an exact UK premiere date but will air this July on U&Alibi. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
