Netflix has released the official trailer for ‘Alley Cats’, the brand-new adult animated comedy from Emmy and BAFTA award-winning creator Ricky Gervais (After Life, Extras, The Office), which arrives on the streaming service this August.
The six-part series follows the trials and tribulations of a group of feral British cats from all walks of society, who are looking for companionship while also ruminating on the everyday struggles of life. So, basically, cats doing what cats do best: judging the world around them, but with more existential dread and probably better dialogue.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited about a trailer. I can’t wait for everyone to get to know these cats.”
‘Alley Cats’ is created, written and directed by Ricky Gervais, and features his familiar blend of comedy, heart and social commentary. The series uses a bold 2D animation style, produced at UK-based animation studio Blink Industries, the team behind Dead End: Paranormal Park and Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared.
The cast includes Ricky Gervais (After Life), Tom Basden (Here We Go), Andrew Brooke (The Crown), David Earl (Brian and Charles), Kerry Godliman (Whitstable Pearl), Jo Hartley (After Life), Diane Morgan (Mandy), along with Natalie Cassidy (EastEnders) and Tony Way (After Life).
Gervais is also set to appear at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Thursday, 25th June for a discussion about the upcoming series. As part of the event, Netflix will give audiences a world-exclusive sneak peek at the first two episodes ahead of the show’s launch later this summer.
Behind the scenes, ‘Alley Cats’ is co-directed by Elliot Dear, with Ricky Gervais executive producing through Derek Productions alongside Steven Hamilton Shaw of Shush Creative. James Stevenson Bretton and Ben Lole executive produce for Blink Industries, with Hugo Donkin producing and Tang Heng as production designer.
‘Alley Cats’ Season 1 premieres Friday, 7th August 2026 on Netflix.
