Netflix To Premiere Exclusive Extended Look At ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ This August

by Dave Elliott

Netflix and Rockstar Games are teaming up for something rather unusual later this month, as Netflix subscribers will get the first extended look at ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ in an exclusive streaming event.

The appropriately titled ‘Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look’ will give Netflix members an early glimpse at one of the most ridiculously anticipated games in history. Rockstar has been keeping details relatively tightly controlled, so anything promising an “extended look” is likely to get a lot of attention.

It is also a first-of-its-kind partnership between Rockstar Games and Netflix, with the streaming service getting the exclusive debut before the wider internet inevitably starts picking through every frame for clues about Vice City, Leonida, Jason, Lucia, and whether that random shop sign in the background confirms some obscure fan theory.

“Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honoured that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first,” says Brandon Riegg, VP of Nonfiction Series. “It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.”

‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ follows Jason and Lucia, who find themselves caught up in a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida after an apparently straightforward score goes badly wrong. The game returns players to a modern version of Vice City alongside a much wider surrounding state.

The release comes 13 years after ‘Grand Theft Auto V’, which is a mildly terrifying statistic for anyone who remembers picking it up at launch. Rockstar’s previous trailers have already given us a look at the scale of the new setting, its two central characters and the studio’s typically sharp take on modern American culture.

Netflix has increasingly pushed beyond traditional film and television into games, live events and other forms of entertainment, but securing the exclusive premiere of new ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ footage is certainly one of its more eye-catching moves.

‘Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look’ premieres Thursday, 27th August 2026 at 8pm on Netflix in the UK. ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ launches Thursday, 19th November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
