I’m guessing it will premiere the second of weekend of July (12-13th) since they said mid-July and C4 TV Listings are released until July 10 and there’s no Utopia. They will broadcast two consecutive episodes!

Renewal definite. Been confirmed with trailer on the Utopia facebook page.

It’s nothing like the Ring…honestly. Bad things don’t happen to people in the possession of it, rather, the story isn’t fictional and there are people who don’t want the ideas contained within the graphic novel becoming relatively well known – and because, as far as I can tell, the author hid some secrets in there.

It’s being hunted by two opposing forces, Jessica Hyde who wants to protect her father’s work and kick ass simultaneously, and the other people whose name I forget because I’ve not watched it in a while.

But that is definitely not a comparison that should be made.

Does anyone have any idea of when this show is coming back?! I’m so excited to see the follow up and I’ve searched this a few times this year to make sure.

It’s been commissioned but has only just begun production. Broadcast will be sometime in 2014

This show is great. However the details listed above are incorrect, this show was made in the UK by Channel 4.

Its a fantastic show, may start off confusing but it grabs you by the balls and you cant stop watching. Yes there is a lot of violence, but be honest, its still a bloody brilliant show. Cant wait for the next season.

The show is awesome 10 out of 10. A combination of so many genres rolled into one. It is darkly comic, gritty, surreal, at times horrific, with a conspiracy plotline thrown in the mix. The show has calibre. No I wouldn’t recommend for those who have trouble following modern plots, or those who cringe at horror or are offended by graphic violence. Although for those of us who appreciate a sound track, the cinematography, its locations, its dubious plot, its dark humour, and stylisation it will keep you glued throughout. Absolute genius what a great show..

Just saw the 1st episode by accident. Intros after every advertising break: be warned… graphical violence…

Was it graphical? Yes. Was it unnecessary? Yes. Was it credible? Of course not. When that guy gouged the other guy’s eyes out, I felt faint. When that guy’s partner killed a man in the street with a screwdriver through the throat and then cradled the guy’s head backwards in his arms to make the blood spurt from the wound, I left the room. I cannot see that any of this was necessary. Not even in an imperfect world. Not even to mimic madness of reality, or imagined reality. Just very graphic and unnecessary violence with lots of graphic suffering that doesn’t reach your heart. it just makes you de-sensitized from regular exposure to non-caring.

This sententious comment below me is a testament to creators it truely is. So Ken, it’s not credible yet you felt faint? That makes complete sense… I suppose you think the violence in something like Godfather is “necessary violence” because it’s a classy film right? Anyway moving on from this moron.

Utopia is actually a dystopian nightmare set in the near future, the meticulous cinematography adding to the gritty atmosphere of this show although I was slightly bemused the aspect ratio it’s filmed in. It is very close to the cyber punk genre in places without being overly esoteric. If you are a fan of Children of Men for it’s strange yet close to home, British, feel I think you might like this series.

Personally I think it’s quite promising even if Neil Maskell almost always plays nasty characters like that, his performance is so straight in this, however, I might even forgive his apparently voluntary type casting (from what I’ve seen anyway). The overall performances are varied but I would be pushed to say bad at the worst of times. There doesn’t have to be pieces of dialog to add to the 1984esque vibe of this show, just look at that office covered in dark wood and feel the ominous nature of the business elite seeping off the screen, or the sprawling expanses of english suburbia – oddly deserted in an almost uneasy 28 days later type way. Anyway I would recommend this show.

I really don’t see why you need to decredit someone’s response because of some anal little thing. Utopia has certainly pushed the boundaries, I mean where do you draw the line if shooting a cowering child is acceptable? The fact that they filmed him dramatically having some epiphany beforehand should not soften the blow. This is the sort of thing I would expect to be lurking in the dark corners of the internet, not something casually accepted by a social majority it seems. The thing that saves utopia for me at the moment is some of the stylistic and beautiful shots, but I don’t believe that chucking an excessive amount of violence and taboo at something inherently makes it meaningful.

To the whiners who are so overly sensitive to the violence, does it ever cross your mind that maybe your missing something……?
The extreme violence is a massive part of the show as far as what it represents, and if you complain about the use of it then you should just not bother watching Utopia because you clearly dont understand the message.

Amazing show imo, would love for another series. These days great shows never seem to be on air for that long, intentional or otherwise.
