Couple of Notes on Commenting…

TIPS FOR POSTING It is always extremely helpful when people post dates, times and information below. It is useful in keeping the list as current as possible and makes for a great community spirit. But when posting, please remember the following:

1) Use full programme titles. As instantly recognisable as abbreviations may be to someone who watches that show, to someone who doesn’t, it is just a meaningless collection of letters that have to be looked up.

2) If a bit of information is a rumour, please say so – we can list it as such, pending confirmation

3) If something comes from a reputable source, please quote that source, so we all know it is not just a rumour.

Thank you.

  15. Ramsay says:

As expected, the first show of Lethal Weapon’s third season was unequivocally bad….bad….bad!! It actually reminded me of one of those dire 1980s movie sequels. The ones where principal cast members didn’t return so they built the film around peripheral figures, referencing departed characters to create a tenuous link to the superior original, while trying to recreate the same dynamic in the most painfully lazy and contrived way possible. No wonder Wayans jumped ship and it got cancelled!

I think that’s a bit harsh I still thought it was entertaining enough

      1+
      • Ramsay says:

Without Riggs it just seemed pointless to me and the new character’s ‘damage’ was way too contrived and obvious (and wouldn’t someone have to, you know, pass a detectives exam before being promoted – regardless of their background?!?!) For great entertainment everyone should check out Warrior on Sky One. What an exceptional and unexpected treat that’s proving to be. Martial arts shows / films are very often all style and little narrative substance, but this blends both perfectly. And the stand alone ‘wild west’ episode a couple of weeks back was sheer brilliance. Watching that and Lethal Weapon’s premiere back to back would kind of be the televisual equivalent of seeing Man City playing football one minute and then a team of blind septuagenarians having a kick about the next!

There was nothing bad about the first episode of Lethal Weapon series 3. I actually really enjoyed it.

      3+

Nothing bad? I mean, the complete absence of the titular character might be number one on that rather long list! I guess some are easily pleased.

        • Paul Dormer says:

Titular character? You mean there used to be a character in it called “Lethal Weapon”?

          2+
          • Ramsay says:

            From the good old dictionary:

Titular: Relating to – or denoted – by a title.

Unless you believe that Rog’s neighbour is the Lethal Weapon, I think my description’s accurate!

            1+
            • Heidi says:

I think your assessment is a bit harsh after just one episode. Only one cast member has been replaced, apart from that the show is the same as it always was. I’ve always liked Seann William Scott anyway so in my opinion he is a more than worthy replacement! Everyone i’ve spoken to have still said that it was good. Some people were just determined not to like it no matter what it was like and are way too hard to please!

              5+
              • Ramsay says:

But it’s not one cast member, it’s THE cast member. Or rather the character (as the cast member was quite clearly a * insert expletive * ) who the films / show was built around. I actually wanted to like it, though, Heidi as Scott has always seemed quite cool, even if he doesn’t quite have Crawford’s range and ability to manifest deep rooted emotional trauma and inner conflict. Plus, he’ll always be the Stiff Meister to me – I can’t escape it!

I really like the rest of the cast too, but there just didn’t feel like a reason for the show to exist without Riggs and I found it hard to get around that. Personally speaking, I think they should have just bitten the bullet – Dr Who / Bond style – and recast Riggs. That would have made more sense imo, and allowed the story they were telling to continue (providing the new Riggs cut the mustard) as it was great the way it was.

                0
                • Jus says:

Way to harsh on it in my opinion, I thought it was still what it always was a action entertainment show it’s hardly like it was a serious acting drama ever. I do agree that Warrior was very good though.

I don’t watch it but telling from the previous season coming on last April your probably right in saying it looks like E4 have dropped it. UK networks are ruthless for keeping quiet on shows they have dropped. Channel 5 did it with Will & Grace and Gotham, Itv2 did it with Mom.

        • Dave Elliott Dave Elliott says:

I think Supernatural will be on Amazon Prime eventually, regardless of what happens with E4, as the streaming rights are usually a totally separate issue from the broadcast rights (hence the reason the last season of Gotham is on Netflix now, despite it having not yet finished airing on E4). Having said that, Season 13 didn’t arrive on Amazon until May this year, so it could be a long wait…

Regarding E4, I don’t know this for a fact, but i suspect it’s a contract issue, which is why they won’t tell us either way if they are airing it or not. It may yet still show up, but the longer it goes on, the less likely it is to happen…

As a nervous flyer I should probably have given this a miss. It was a bit slow. They seem to have spent the budget on getting some well known actors and the special effects weren’t bad, but they seem to have skimped on the script writers. Also, despite claiming to have been shot in the UK and Canada, the London scenes looked suspiciously like Canada.

I’ve found on google a tweet from Warner Brothers saying the release has been delayed due to a rights issue, but that was a year ago. Did season 4 make it to Netflix here? Is it still available?

    0

Yes, seasons 4 and 5 are available to stream on Netflix UK.

I’d still like to know what they mean by “clearance issues”, it sounds a bit like that old British Rail “operating difficulties”. Odd that they can show it on Netflix but not anywhere else. If they said Netflix had exclusive rights to show it, that would be another thing.

There’s two shows i wish to enquire about as well as a general question. Regarding the recent cancellations/renewals does that mean more will hopefully be picked up in uk now? as it seems to have been incredibly slow on acquistions (unless im mistaken?)

Also wanted to ask about whether bbc2 will show the second season of pose closer to the broadcast of usa now that its finished its first season.

Oh and will e4 be showing the 100 anymore?

    0
    • Dave Elliott Dave Elliott says:

In answer to the general question, yes there will be some more pickups by the UK broadcaster. As to when, that’s harder to say. They do seem to be being a little more careful about what they take. So we might see some of the shows that have been given 2nd season renewals over some of the new shows (unless they think a new show looks like a solid hit).

With Pose, hard to say. They could air it closer to the US as they automatically have the right through the FX carriage deal. But the BBC tend to do things on their own terms, so who knows!

As far as we know, yes, the next season of The 100 should be on E4.

Not into any of those shows. I’m more a Young Sheldon and Mom but can’t watch mom anymore as no one has still yet to buy it here.

Nothing yet, but itv only announce 2 weeks before airing, we doesn’t usually get much advanced warning. They did say they would air it, but now its the final season that may have delayed it or changed their plans. I’ll update if we get some info. 🙂

No it hasn’t. You may have been watching a rerun of Season 4 possibly, but Season 5 has not yet aired in the UK. It is set to come to Sky Witness in June 2019.

As a fan I’m glad it’s been renewed for a final season. Like Gotham I’m happy that the writers, producers and network are going to give it a proper send off. This seasons been great but I’ve got to admit it has gone a bit silly. Oh well can’t have it all.

Last 3 seasons of the Mindy project added to sky box sets from a couple weeks ago. Very much doubt they will air on a channel especially as the show ended 3 years ago. Might not be an unknown anymore.

Very pleased to see The Mindy Project, at last. It was frustrating that it wasn’t available anywhere, even to pay extra for.
Hopefully they will do the same with ‘Raising Hope’, which was dropped by Sky after two seasons.

So just got an e-mail back from E4 saying they have no current plans to show Supernatural. So much for hoping they would back to back season 14 and 15 so we can watch the last ever season at the same time 🙁 Anyone heard any different?

And they wonder why people resort to illegal downloads!!! It’s been passed around that many UK broadcasters previously I very much doubt it’ll get aired at all. And not everyone can afford the price of boxset dvds either.

I’m in uk and have downloaded an app called play on cloud I get 20 recording credits it’s £4.79 per month Supernatural, legacies and charmed are all on there.

        • Dave Elliott Dave Elliott says:

Usually when people post these I remove them as they aren’t legal, but I’m leaving this as the The PlayOn app is an interesting one, and in a somewhat grey area.

It is legitimately on the iOS and Android stores. It works by recording digital streams from legitimate sources to allow you to watch shows offline, like how your Sky+ box records shows on live TV. However, it also works on the US network’s websites, like The CW, US FOX, ABC etc… who upload “catch up” episodes to their sites so US audiences can watch them, like we have with iPlayer/ITV Hub etc… in the UK.

These US sites are normally region locked to UK viewers so they can’t see them. You can bypass them using a proxy, but we aren’t supposed to be able to get them, as the broadcasters only have the rights for them in their region. This allows the show’s creators to make money by selling their show overseas to international broadcasters. I suspect PlayOn works due to the PlayOn server being US based, so the system that “records” the show to your phone has access to it via the US, even though the UK aren’t supposed to be able to get it.

So, it is legal, but be aware, the money you are paying goes to PlayOn, not the creators of the shows or the networks that run the shows. That means it makes it less likely a show does actually get picked up over here, and devalues it, making it less likely to be renewed (not that it matters in the case of Supernatural, which is ending anyway). It also might mean the service could get blocked at some point for UK customers if the US networks challenge it.

Hi any idea if any UK channel is buying the documentary At the Heart of Gold? It’s about the abuse case in the US Olympic gymnastics team and was on HBO in the US last week. I’m there on hols but where I’m staying doesn’t have HBO and it looks really good.
Trying hard not to watch loads of programmes that we’re still waiting for!

    • MartyM says:

HBO have an exclusive deal with Sky Atlantic, so if it’s coming to the UK that’s where it will be. So it just depends on whether Sky think there is an audience for it.
