We’ve had a couple of big screen adaptations, but now TWC-Dimension are looking to bring Frank Miller’s ‘Sin City’ to the small screen too.

This new version is being written by Glen Mazzara, whose previous credits include The Walking Dead, The Shield, Hawthorne and Damien, and directed by Len Wiseman, whose work includes Underworld, Total Recall (2012 version), Lucifer & Sleepy Hollow. Stephen L’Heureux, who was a producer on the ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’ film with produce along with Frank Miller, Mazzara, Wiseman and the Weinsteins.

The ‘Sin City’ tv series is said to be a departure from the two Robert Rodriguez films, with Mazzara bringing a “fresh take”, based in the original source material, introducing original characters and timelines. Whilst the first of the Rodriguez movies did well at the box office, the sequel failed to live up to expectation (or make it’s money back.)

The original graphic novel tells the story of Basin City aka ‘Sin City’, a fictional town in the American west – High crime rates, a corrupt paramilitary style police force, and a seedy Old Town district, where the prostitutes rule with absolute authority. Whether the tv show will stick with using Marv as the central character, or just use ‘Sin City’ itself as the character, following different people within it remains to be seen.

It will be interesting to see what they do regarding the look of the series too. Will they dare to stick to the (mostly) black & white visuals used in the books and the films, or come up with some other unique style?

The ‘Sin City’ tv series doesn’t have a network yet, and is still in early development, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.
