The CW’s reboot of classic 80’s soap ‘Dynasty‘ has found a UK home on Netflix the streaming service has announced today. In a huge deal with CBS Studios International, Netflix will air the series in all international territories outside of the USA.
‘Dynasty’ is a modernised reboot of the 1980’s primetime soap that follows two of America’s wealthiest families – the Carringtons and the Colbys – as they feud for control over their fortune and their children. The series will be told primarily through the perspectives of two women at odds: Fallon Carrington, daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington, and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal, a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class. Features the 1% in all its glitz and gloss, while exposing the dark underbelly: a corrupt world built on backroom deals.
The reboot is being handled by Gossip Girl’s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who are joined by writer/producer Sallie Patrick (Revenge, Limitless), and the show’s original creators, Esther & Richard Shapiro. Patrick serves as showrunner.
Elizabeth Gillies (Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, Victorious) stars as Fallon Carrington, Nathalie Kelley (The Vampire Diaries, UnREAL) plays Cristal Jennings, with Grant Show (Devious Maids, Private Practice) taking the Blake Carrington role. Additional cast includes Alan Dale (Neighbours, Once Upon a Time, Lost), Brianna Brown (Devious Maids, Graceland, General Hospital), Robert Christopher Riley (Elementary, Hit the Floor), James Mackay (The Straits), Sam Adegoke (Switched at Birth, Murder in the First), and Rafael de la Fuente (Empire, When We Rise).
Interestingly, it would appear Netflix nabbed the series early, which explains why it was missing from the big LA Screenings event last month, where international buyers traditionally go to acquire new US shows. Netflix has already got exclusive UK rights to a number of CBS and CW shows including ‘Reign‘, ‘iZombie‘, and ‘Star Trek: Discovery‘.
Netflix UK is expected to air ‘Dynasty‘ from the 12th October 2017, just hours after the US (although that is still to be confirmed.)
