The BBC has dropped their first trailer for the upcoming adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s ‘Strike: The Cuckoos Calling‘, which comes to BBC One from Sunday, 27th August 2017 at 9pm.
Written by Rowling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, the story begins with the apparent suicide of Supermodel Lula Landry (Elarica Johnson – ‘Top Boy’, ‘EastEnders’) who falls to her death from a Mayfair balcony. Her adopted brother, John Bristow (Leo Bill – ‘Taboo’, ‘The White Queen’), believes it was actually murder, so enlists private investigator Cormoran Strike (Tom Burke – ‘The Musketeers’, ‘War & Peace’) and his partner Robin Ellacott (Holliday Grainger – ‘The Borgias’, ‘Cinderella’) to take on the case.
Strike is a war veteran turned private detective operating out of a tiny office in London’s Denmark Street, who is wounded both physically and psychologically. His unique insight and his background as a SIB Investigator prove crucial in solving this murder.
The ‘Strike’ series will include adaptations of all 3 of Rowling/Galbraith’s novels, kicking off with ‘The Cuckoo’s Calling’ in 3 x 60 minute episodes. This will be followed by ‘The Silkworm’ (2 x 60 minutes) and ‘Career of Evil’ (2 x 60 minutes) over the next few years.
‘The Cuckoo’s Calling’ has been adapted for tv by writer Ben Richards (‘The Tunnel: Sabotage’, ‘Spooks’) and directed by Michael Keillor (‘Line of Duty’, ‘Critical’). Tom Edge (‘The Last Dragon Slayer’, ‘Lovesick’) will take over writing duties on the next 2 adaptations, with Kieron Hawkes (‘Fortitude’, ‘Ripper Street’) directing ‘The Silkworm’ and Charles Sturridge (‘Churchill’s Secret’, ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’) directing ‘Career of Evil‘.
