CBS Developing ‘L.A. Confidential’ TV Series

US network CBS has started to develop a tv series based on James Ellroy’s classic neo-noir novel ‘L.A. Confidential’ it has been announced.

The adaptation is being written by Jordan Harper (‘Gotham’, ‘The Mentalist’), and tells the story of 3 homicide detectives, a female reporter, and a Hollywood actress, as they are embroiled in a case to track a sadistic serial killer through the murky underbelly of 1950s Los Angeles.

This is, of course, not the first time ‘L.A. Confidential’ has been brought to the screen, having had a successful movie version in 1997 starring Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce & Kim Basinger, which got 9 Oscar nominations. But it’s also not the first time a tv series has been attempted. In 2003 a pilot was shot starring Kiefer Sutherland, Josh Hopkins (‘Quantico’, ‘Cougar Town’), David Conrad (‘Agents Of Shield’, ‘Ghost Whisperer’), and Melissa George (‘Heartbeat’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Home and Away’), but it failed to be picked up to series.

The original novel was released by Ellroy in 1990 as the 3rd part of his ‘L.A. Quartet’ series, all set in the City Of Angels from the late 1940s through the late 1950s.

‘L.A. Confidential’ is still very much in development, but we’ll bring you more news as we get it.
