‘Veep’ To End After Season 7

Armando Iannucci’s multi-Emmy-winning, hilarious, HBO show Veep is coming to an end after its next season it has been announced. The news had been somewhat expected after the cast only extended their contracts for 1 year when their renewals came up after season 6.

“The decision to bring ‘Veep’ to a close at the end of next season is bittersweet,” comments Casey Bloys, president, HBO programming. “We love the show and everyone involved but respect the producers’ choice to bring Selina Meyer’s journey to its conclusion after an extraordinary run of critical and award-winning acclaim. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ comedic brilliance infused Selina with a dynamic presence and a vibrant wit which will ensure her a place in the history of television’s most iconic comedic characters. We look forward to producing the 7th and final season.”

The political satire followed fictional vice-president (and, temporarily, President) Selina Meyer as she attempts to leave her mark on the political landscape in Washington DC… Arguably, often leaving more of an unsightly stain that a mark to be proud of. The show has garnered huge critical acclaim, with bags full of Emmy nominations and wins for people on and off camera, and for the entire show itself.

Much as I completely adore ‘Veep’ I think this is probably the right creative choice from the cast and current showrunner David Mandel. “We don’t want to repeat ourselves or be boring. It’s bittersweet but it’s right,” he comments, and I think that makes sense.

Veep‘ airs on Sky Atlantic in the UK, and the 7th and final Season is expected in Spring 2018.
