Vincent D’Onofrio Returns To ‘Daredevil’ In Season 3

One of Daredevil’s biggest villains will be returning in the 3rd season of the Marvel/Netflix show it has been announced. Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, when the Devil of Hells Kitchen returns next year.

D’Onofrio first appeared as Fisk in Daredevil Season 1, playing that seasons main protagonist. He then popped up again, unexpectedly, when Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) finds himself imprisoned with him in Season 2.

“Vincent is an exceptional actor who returns with the incredible gravitas he brings to Fisk,” commented exec producer and Marvel Television VP Jeph Loeb.

There are also some changes going on behind the scenes on the show, as Erik Oleson takes over as showrunner. Oleson most recently has been working as writer and EP on ‘The Man in the High Castle’, but does have some experience working with superheroes, as he was previously a writer and EP on ‘Arrow’.

Oleson will be the 4th person to land the showrunning job on ‘Daredevil’. The series was originally developed by Drew Goddard (‘Buffy/Angel’, ‘Lost’, ‘The Martian’) and was supposed to be showrunner too, but ended up leaving due to other work commitments. He handed over the reins to fellow Buffy alumnus Steven S. DeKnight (‘Spartacus’, ‘Smallville’, ‘Buffy/Angel’) for season 1. Season 2 saw Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez take over, who were then given ‘The Defenders’ to run, but Petrie left the show, so Ramirez continued the team up series solo. Now we have Oleson for Season 3.

“We’re very excited how Marvel’s Daredevil develops through the creative lens and guidance of our new showrunner, Erik Oleson,” added Loeb.

Based on the Marvel comic book character by Stan Lee and Bill Everett, ‘Daredevil’ stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy, but imbued with extraordinary senses. Now Matt fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the superhero ‘Daredevil’ in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.

We still don’t know exactly when ‘Daredevil’ Season 3 is likely to land, but we do know the 2nd seasons of ‘Luke Cage’ and ‘Jessica Jones’ are already shooting, so they are likely to come first. The next Marvel/Netflix series to land is The Punisher, which sees Jon Bernthal return as Frank Castle on Friday, 17th November 2017.
