‘Bad Boys’ TV Show Spin-Off In The Works…

Welcome to this weeks edition of “Hollywood is out of original ideas” – that started as a gag, but is becoming a reality… The Will Smith/Martin Lawrence movie ‘Bad Boys’ has a tv spin-off in development.

The project is set to focus on Special Agent Sydney “Syd” Burnett, sister to Martin Lawrence’s Marcus Burnett, who appeared in Bad Boys 2 played by Gabrielle Union. In the movie, she secretly dating her brother’s partner, Mike Lowrey (Smith), and is an undercover DEA agent.

Gabrielle Union, who is set to reprise her role, has been starring in BET drama ‘Being Mary Jane’, but the channel recently announced the show will be ending next year, making her available should the ‘Bad Boys’ spin-off go into production.

The series, which is currently being pitched to US networks, is being developed by mega movie/tv producer Jerry Bruckheimer, 2.0 Entertainment’s Doug Belgrad and Primary Wave Entertainment. Sony Pictures TV Studios, who also made the movie, will be the studio.

Bruckheimer has recently said that ‘Bad Boys 3’, which was supposed to arrive in November 2018, is still a possibility, despite losing that release date slot and director Joe Carnahan quitting due to “creative differences.”

“We’ve been developing it for I don’t know how many years now, and we had a period of time where it got pretty close and then it drifted away a little bit, and hopefully it will drift back again,” said Bruckheimer.

This runs contrary to remarks from Martin Lawrence who declared the movie was dead although did comment “I’m there, I’m ready right now. If they wanted to do it, I’m ready, but I don’t have control of that. That’s the studio decision.”

Either way, it’s unlikely to happen soon, as Will Smith is tied up playing the Genie in Guy Ritchie’s live-action remake of Disney’s ‘Aladdin’.

The ‘Bad Boys’ tv spin-off is still in early development, but we’ll bring you more news as we have it.
