‘The Last Kingdom‘ is set to return for the 3rd Season to the UK on Netflix in November the streaming service has announced.
‘The Last Kingdom’ follows young warrior and outsider, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), on a fierce mission to reclaim his birthright. The series combines real historical figures and events with fictional characters during the reign of Alfred the Great, who as King of Wessex fought off a Viking invasion.
The drama, which is based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories novel series, has suffered a bit of a bumpy ride when it comes to broadcast partners. It was originally a co-production for BBC Two & BBC America by Carnival Films. After BBC America dropped out, Netflix stepped in as a co-producer for Season 2. In April 2018 it was announced the 3rd Season would air exclusively on Netflix.
The new series will see King Alfred (David Dawson) consider his legacy, as his dream of uniting the kingdoms of England is jeopardised by incessant Danish attacks. Alfred knows that the only man with the power to crush the uprising and secure the Wessex dynasty is the great warrior and hero Uhtred, but when their volatile relationship reaches breaking point, Uhtred must confront the difficult truth: if he deserts Alfred’s cause, everything he has fought for will be forever changed.
‘The Last Kingdom‘ Season 3 premieres on Netflix UK and worldwide, Monday, 19th November 2018.
