Dodger and Fagin are preparing for one last job, as Disney+ and Hulu have renewed ‘The Artful Dodger’ for a third and final season.
The Australian period adventure will once again star Thomas Brodie-Sangster (The Queen’s Gambit) as Jack Dawkins, the former pickpocket turned surgeon, alongside David Thewlis (Landscapers) as Fagin and Maia Mitchell (Good Trouble) as Lady Belle Fox. Filming is due to begin in Sydney in the coming months.
Set in 1850s Australia, 15 years after the events of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist, ‘The Artful Dodger’ follows Jack as he attempts to build a respectable life as a surgeon. Unfortunately, his criminal past and old mentor Fagin have a habit of dragging him back towards trouble.
The combination of heists, medical drama, romance and mischief has clearly found an audience, with Disney describing the series as the most-viewed Australian original title on Disney+.
Kylie Watson-Wheeler, Disney Australia and New Zealand’s SVP and managing director, said: “The renewal is a testament to the quality of this show, and everyone involved in making it.”
Executive producer Jo Porter added: “We love that audiences have embraced the show’s unique blend of adventure, humour and romance, and we are planning for this season to be even more ambitious, surprising and unpredictable.”
Sony Pictures Television’s Curio Pictures returns to produce, with Porter and Rachel Gardner serving as executive producers and producers. Chris Martin-Jones (A Place to Call Home) returns as series producer, while Ben Young (The Twelve) and Ben C. Lucas (The Survivors) are back as directors.
BAFTA nominee Andrew Knight (Hacksaw Ridge) leads the writing team as executive producer, alongside Dan Knight (Irreverent) as script producer. The series was co-created by James McNamara, David Maher and David Taylor.
The first two seasons of ‘The Artful Dodger’ are currently available on Disney+ in the UK and internationally, and on Hulu in the USA, giving viewers plenty of time to catch up before Dodger and Fagin embark on their final round of criminal surgery, romantic complications and highly questionable life choices.
‘The Artful Dodger’ Season 3 will premiere on Disney+ in the UK and internationally, and on Hulu in the USA. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
