CW’s ‘The Lost Boys’ has found the rest of the Emerson clan as Rio Mangini & Del Zamora join the pilot in a couple of key roles.

The drama is set in Santa Carla, California, a town with a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat… and a secret underworld of vampires. After the sudden death of their father, Michael (‘Teen Wolf’ star Tyler Posey) and Sam Emerson move to Santa Carla with their mother Lucy (Kiele Sanchez – ‘Kingdom’, ‘Lost’), who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.

Mangini will star as younger brother Sam, whose high level of literacy is matched by an equally high level of snark. It’s fair to say, he is not very enamoured with the family’s new location in Santa Carla. In a gender twist from the original movie, this is a sentiment he shares with a pair of local girls, the Frog Sisters.

For those of you familiar with the cult-classic film, you’ll remember this was one of many which starred the iconic 80’s pairing of Coreys Haim and Feldman. Haim played Sam, whilst Feldman starred as Edgar Frog, with Jamison Newlander playing his brother, Alan Frog. It seems the tv show has decided to gender swap the Frog roles.

Mangini recently starred in the short-lived ‘Everything Sucks!’ for Netflix, and previously appeared in ‘Bella and the Bulldogs’, ‘General Hospital’, and ‘Miles from Tomorrowland’. He also popped up as Alex in Season 6 of ‘Teen Wolf’ alongside his new on-screen brother, Tyler Posey.

Zamora will play Frank Garcia, Lucy’s father, the wonderfully cantankerous old hippie played by Barnard Hughes in the original movie. In this version, he owns a beloved local bed and breakfast, but in spite of his laid-back appearance, he’s a strict disciplinarian who probably knows more about the dark side of town than he cares to tell. As he says in the film, “One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach: all the damn vampires!”

Del Zamora is a veteran actor with some previous vampire experience, having played Don Bartolo in ‘True Blood’. More recently, he’s popped up in shows such as ‘The Red Road’, ‘Longmire’, ‘Mayans M.C.’ and played Kwahu in the brilliant ‘Sneaky Pete’.

Mangini and Zamora join the previously announced cast of Tyler Posey, Kiele Sanchez, Medalion Rahimi (‘Still Star-Crossed’, ‘The Outpost’), who plays Stella, and Dakota Shapiro (‘Valley of the Boom’) who takes the role of vampire David. Catherine Hardwicke (‘Twilight’, Red Riding Hood’) is set to direct.

‘The Lost Boys’ adaptation comes from ‘Veronica Mars’ and ‘iZombie’ creator Rob Thomas and has been floating around since 2016. Thomas himself is now tied up at Hulu with a new ‘Veronica Mars’ series, so writer Heather Mitchell (‘Scandal’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’) took a new pass at a script which led to the pilot order. At the moment, the potential series is only a pilot, so may not make it on screen. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
