Twentieth Century Fox today released a set of new images for ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’, the upcoming new movie in the Terminator franchise. Before you go “oh no, not another one!” there are some differences with this latest film, which might put it above the… shall we say, less than well received… other sequels.
Firstly, this will see the return of Linda Hamilton as the iconic Sarah Connor, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the T-800. Secondly, this is a direct follow-on from ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’. Thirdly, it is being directed by Tim Miller, the man behind ‘Deadpool’, and produced by original Terminator director James Cameron alongside David Ellison (‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise, ‘Star Trek’ franchise, ‘True Grit’).
“What makes or breaks a movie is whether I care about the characters when everything starts exploding,” Millar told IGN in a recent interview. “I’m sure every action filmmaker says that, but I did really try and focus on the relationships of these characters to one another. And the fact that Linda came back makes this particular Terminator fresh, this story could only continue with her in the role of Sarah Connor. That’s the most important thing for me. Linda reinvented this character in a way that both honours who she was before and brings something new to the role.”
Joining Hamilton and Schwarzenegger in the new film are Mackenzie Davis (‘Blade Runner 2049’, ‘Halt and Catch Fire’), Colombian actress Natalia Reyes (‘Cumbia Ninja’, ‘2091’), Gabriel Luna (‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, ‘True Detective’), and Diego Boneta (‘Scream Queens’, ‘Pretty Little Liars’).
