Great news Spidey fans! Tom Holland will not only be back as your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, but he will also be returning to the MCU, after Sony and Marvel work out their differences.
Over the Summer, it was announced that Sony and Marvel had hit a roadblock with their deal, which had previously seen the studios join forces to produce ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’. This breakdown, which was over the production and money split on the franchise, would have seen Peter Parker removed from the MCU. Today, however, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have announced they have found a way through which suits both parties.
This means Marvel Studios under the guidance of president, Kevin Feige, will produce a 3rd film in the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise, with Tom Holland back in the Spidey suit. As part of the arrangement, Spider-Man will also appear in a future Marvel Studios film.
“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” commented Feige in a statement. “Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
Amy Pascal of Pascal Pictures, who produced the first two films and returns for the third added “This is terrific! Peter Parker’s story took a dramatic turn in ‘Far From Home’ and I could not be happier we will all be working together as we see where his journey goes.”
‘Spider-Man 3’ is set to premiere in cinemas worldwide on Friday, 16th July 2021.
