Richard Ayoade packs his suitcases for his final few mini-breaks in Season 9 of ‘Travel Man’, which returns this October to Channel 4.
The series follows Richard as he takes a sideways look at how visitors might spend 48 hours in some of the world’s most popular mini-break destinations – and for each trip, the Travel Man is joined by a well-known travel companion.
The opening episode of the new season sees Richard do Dubrovnik with comedian Stephen Merchant. Having checked in to their fancy rooms at a 16th-century townhouse, they head off round one of the world’s best-preserved medieval cities. A ‘Game of Thrones’ tour features some of the show’s most celebrated locations.
There’s also some ston oysters on the terrace of the famous Hotel Excelsior, a buggy safari on Mount Srd, and a visit to a hilltop fort still littered with landmines dating from the war of the 1990s. As Croatia is the birthplace of the cravat, Richard and Stephen seek out neckwear, before taking a ferry to the cursed island of Lokrum, home to a population of peacocks. But before heading home, the big question is, who will get to sit on the iron throne?
This marks the final season of ‘Travel Man’ for Richard, who will be leaving the show which has seen him explored over 40 cities including Copenhagen with Noel Fielding; Hong Kong with ‘Mad Men’ actor Jon Hamm; Athens with Dawn French; Brussels with Lee Mack; Venice with Jo Brand; St Petersburg with Rob Beckett; and Florence with Hollywood actor Rebel Wilson.
Beginning in 2020, comedian Joe Lycett will take over the role of lead traveller, taking in various 48-hour mini-breaks. Joe has some experience already, having previously joined Richard on a weekend mini-break to Amsterdam.
‘Travel Man’ Season 9 premieres Monday, 21st October 2019 at 8.30pm on Channel 4.
