Daniel Dae Kim Land Recurring Role On ‘New Amsterdam’
Daniel Dae Kim is set to don a doctor’s coat as he lands a recurring role on medical drama ‘New Amsterdam‘ it has been announced.
Inspired by the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama stars Ryan Eggold (‘The Blacklist’) as the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution’s newest medical director, who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking “no” for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital – the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the president of the United States under one roof – and return it to the glory that put it on the map.
Kim is set to play trauma surgeon Dr. Cassian Shin, and joins the drama in upcoming Season 2 episode titled ‘Pandemic’. In a timely but eerie “art imitating life” storyline, an unknown, deathly strain of the flu causes chaos at the hospital. Meanwhile, a new doctor’s (Kim) unorthodox medical practices test Sharpe’s (Freema Agyeman) patience.
Daniel Dae Kim is no stranger to medical dramas, having been an exec producer on ‘The Good Doctor’ and was instrumental in bringing the show, which is based on an award-winning South Korean series, to the US. He also took a short story arc role in Season 2 as chief of surgery. The actor is, of course, well known from his work on ‘Lost’ and ‘Hawaii Five-O’, and recently appeared in the new ‘Hellboy’ movie. He next pops up in Season 2 of UKTV’s ‘Flack’, along with feature films ‘Blast Beat’ and ‘Stowaway’.
The series also stars Janet Montgomery (‘The Romanoffs’) as Dr. Lauren Bloom, Freema Agyeman (‘Doctor Who’) as Dr. Helen Sharpe, Jocko Sims (‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’) as Dr. Floyd Reynolds, Anupam Kher (‘Silver Linings Playbook’) as Dr. Vijay Kapoor, and Tyler Labine (‘StartUp’) as Dr. Iggy Frome.
‘New Amsterdam‘ was one of the series which US network NBC handed a massive three-season renewal, alongside the entire ‘Chicago’ franchise, ‘Law and Order: SVU’ and juggernaut ‘This Is Us’. The medical series ranks the 5th highest-rated drama on live viewing for the network behind ‘This Is Us’ and the ‘Chicago’ franchise shows.
‘New Amsterdam‘ Seasons 1 & 2a can be watched on Amazon Prime UK right now. Season 2b is due to land in May 2020 on the streaming service. For those without Amazon Prime, Season 1 also aired on More4 in the UK.
