Amazon Releases Trailer & May Premiere Date For ‘Homecoming’ Season 2

by Dave Elliott

Amazon Prime has released a trailer for Season 2 of critically-acclaimed series Homecoming which returns this May to the streaming service.

The second season has a fresh new mystery and an exciting new star, as Janelle Monáe (‘Hidden Figures’, ‘Moonlight’) takes over the lead role. Her character wakes in a rowboat adrift a lake, with no memory of how she got there – or even who she is. Her ensuing search for identity will lead her into the heart of the Geist Group, the unconventional wellness company behind the Homecoming Initiative.

Joining Monáe as new cast for season 2 are Oscar-winner Chris Cooper (‘Breach’) as Leonard Geist, the company’s eccentric founder; and Emmy-winner Joan Cusack (‘Shameless’) as Francine Bunda, an equally eccentric military woman.

Returning cast includes Stephan James (‘Race’, ‘Shots Fired’) who reprises his role as Walter Cruz, who is trying to build a new life following the traumas of war and the Homecoming Initiative, when he begins to realise that there’s an even more insidious version of the programme underway – if only he can remember. Hong Chau (‘Watchmen’) returns as Audrey Temple, an anonymous underling at Geist who finds herself thrust into unexpected positions at the top of the corporate ladder.

Homecoming’s co-showrunners and executive producers are Eli Horowitz (‘Homecoming’) and Micah Bloomberg (‘All is Lost’), who are also the creators of the Gimlet Media podcast upon which the show is based. All episodes of the second season are directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez (’13 Reasons Why’), who also serves as Executive Producer. ‘Homecoming’ is co-produced by Amazon Studios and UCP and executive produced by, in addition to those already named: Julia Roberts (‘Pretty Woman’) through her production company Red Om Films, Sam Esmail (‘Mr.Robot’) through his production company Esmail Corp, Chad Hamilton (‘Mr. Robot’) of Anonymous Content, and Chris Giliberti (‘Alex, Inc.’), Alex Blumberg (‘This American Life’) and Matt Lieber (‘Alex, Inc.’) of Gimlet Media.
