BBC iPlayer Adds More Boxsets Including ‘Dracula’, ‘Taboo’, ‘Doctor Foster’, ‘The Kumars’, ‘My Family’ & More

BBC iPlayer Adds More Boxsets Including ‘Dracula’, ‘Taboo’, ‘Doctor Foster’, ‘The Kumars’, ‘My Family’ & More

With the announcement that the lockdown is being extended, the BBC has added even more boxsets to help keep you entertained during the coronavirus pandemic. These include recent hit supernatural drama ‘Dracula’ and the Tom Hardy-starring ‘Taboo’, as well as popular comedies ‘The Kumars at No.42’ and ‘My Family’.

BBC iPlayer is currently seeing a record number of viewers, who have not only been binging their way through boxsets but also watching live TV and catching the latest news. Monday, 23rd March 2020 (the day of the Prime Minister’s address) the streaming service recorded 20.4 million requests, which was the first time iPlayer has seen over 20m programmes requested in a day. Their second-biggest day came on Monday, 13th April 2020, which was the launch of ‘Killing Eve’ Season 3 and conclusion of drama ‘The Nest’, and saw 20.2 million programme requests. ‘Killing Eve’ Season 3 Episode 1 specifically has had 2.8m requests to stream on iPlayer so far.

The full list of boxsets returning to iPlayer includes:

  • Dracula – 21 April
  • Taboo – 21 April
  • Tourist Trap – 21 April
  • Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience – 21 April
  • My Family – 24 April
  • Doctor Foster – 12 June
  • The Kumars at No. 42 – 13th June
  • Strike – 18 June

In addition to those, on 23rd April 2020, as part of Culture in Quarantine, iPlayer will add a selection of productions from the Royal Shakespeare Company. These include some of the bard’s best-known plays, including Hamlet, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet, Othello and The Merchant of Venice, featuring stars such as Christopher Ecclestone and Paapa Essiedu.

“In these difficult times, people are using BBC iPlayer more than ever; to watch the latest news coverage, to learn something new and to sit back and be entertained,” commented Dan McGolpin, controller of programming and iPlayer. “It’s already the place to see brand new Killing Eve and we’re now adding even more choice, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in hit drama series such as Dracula and Taboo or have a good laugh watching comedies like The Kumars at No.42 and My Family.”

All of these returning boxsets join the vast range of programming available on iPlayer already. These include the critically acclaimed sci-fi thriller ‘Devs’, both series of ‘The A Word’, all the seasons of ‘Spooks’, ‘French and Saunders’, ‘The Missing’, ‘Baptiste’, ‘Wallander’, ‘The Honourable Woman’, ‘Waking the Dead’, and for the kids, David Walliams children’s shows ‘Billionaire Boy’, ‘The Midnight Gang’, and ‘Grandpa’s Escape’.
