Amazon Set A September Premiere Date For ‘The Boys’ Season 2

by Dave Elliott

In a live stream (which you can watch above if you missed it), The Boys were reunited (or ‘F***in’ Reunited’, to use the official, rather more appropriately salty title of the stream!), and not only revealed clips of  Season 2, but also a September premiere date… with an interesting scheduling twist…

Season two will return on Friday, 4th September 2020, but taking a note from Apple’s book, that will only be the first three episodes. The rest of the season will premiere weekly. The reason given by showrunner Eric Kripke is that there is “so much crazy sh*t this season, we wanted to give the audience a chance to absorb and recover!”

From ‘Supernatural’s Eric Kripke and ‘Preacher’s Evan Goldberg & Seth Rogen, ‘The Boys’ is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. Season 1 saw the powerless take on the super powerful as The Boys embarked on a heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven, and Vought – the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes and covers up all of their dirty secrets.

The Boys are Billy Butcher (Karl Urban, Star Trek), Hughie (Jack Quaid, The Hunger Games), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso, Detroit), Frenchie (Tomer Capon, Hostages), and The Female (Karen Fukuhara, Suicide Squad). Simon Pegg, whose face was used by Ennis in the comic book as the basis for Hughie, guest stars as Hughie’s father.

The “Supes” of The Seven are led by Homelander (Antony Starr, Banshee) who is joined by Starlight (Erin Moriarty, Captain Fantastic), Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott, House of Cards), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher, Independence Day: Resurgence), and The Deep (Chace Crawford, Gossip Girl).

In addition to that already hefty cast, Amazon confirmed Aya Cash (‘Fosse/Verdon’, ‘Easy’, ‘You’re The Worst’) joins the show in Season 2 as Stormfront, along with ‘Timeless‘ stars Goran Visnjic and Claudia Doumit, who take recurring roles.

In the comic books, Cash’s Stormfront is a male character, whose power comes from lightning and is something akin to Marvel’s Thor or DC’s Shazam, but they will be gender-switching the role for the tv series. In the comics, his public origin story is that he is a reincarnated Viking… But this is ‘The Boys’, and the “heroes” are dicks, so his real (and very much secret) origin, is that he was the first successful super-soldier created by the Third Reich! They’re not giving away about what background they are going to use on the show, but during the live stream, Cash did describe the character as possibly worse than Homelander… which is pretty bad…

Goran Visnjic is set to play the recurring role of Alistair Adana, the charismatic and shadowy leader of a mysterious church, whilst Claudia Doumit will portray Victoria Neuman, a young wunderkind congresswoman, also in a recurring role. They are not only reunited with ‘Timeless‘ creator Eric Kripke for the series but also fellow ‘Timeless’ vet Malcolm Barrett (Rufus), who will reprise his Season 1 role as Vought International Public Relations writer Seth Reed.

The Boys‘ Season 2 premieres Friday, 4th September 2020 on Amazon Prime with episodes 1 to 3, then the rest of the season will premiere weekly on Fridays.
