NBC’s ‘Langdon’ Pilot Adds Rick Gonzalez, Sumalee Montano & Beau Knapp

NBC’s ‘Langdon’ pilot is getting a Wild Dog, as ‘Arrow’ star Rick Gonzalez joins the cast alongside Sumalee Montano (‘Nashville’, ‘Star Wars: Resistance’) & Beau Knapp (‘Seven Seconds’, ‘Shots Fired’).

Based on Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code novel series, the story follows the early adventures of Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, played by Succession’s Ashley Zukerman, who finds himself pulled into a series of deadly puzzles when his mentor is kidnapped. The CIA forces him onto a task force where he uncovers a chilling conspiracy.

The potential series will use 2009 novel ‘The Lost Symbol’ as the basis for the plot, which may have fans of the books a bit confused, as this has been announced as a prequel featuring a young Robert Langdon, whereas the novel is set after the events of the previous books in the series. The plan will be to use the plot of the novel in the tv drama, but it will alter the timeframe to earlier in Langdon’s life.

Gonzalez is set to play Nunez, a uniformed Capitol policeman. He has (as I’m sure a lot of you will know) been playing Rene Ramirez, aka Wild Dog, in ‘Arrow’ up until recently. Prior to that, he starred in the brilliantly underrated ‘Reaper’, and has also popped up in ‘Mr Robot’, ‘Blue Bloods’, ‘NCIS’, and a host of other dramas.

Montano portrays Sato, Director of the OS. She has popped up in a huge range of shows from ‘E.R.’ to ‘Star Trek: Picard’, ‘The Gifted’, ‘How to Get Away with Murder’, ‘Veep’ and many more. However, she is also a talented voice actor, having worked on ‘Star Wars Resistance’, ‘Spider-Man’, ‘Kung Fu Panda’, ‘Love, Death & Robots’, ‘Voltron: Legendary Defender’ and lots of other animated shows.

Knapp will play Mal’akh, who takes Langdon on a dangerous and arcane mission. He has most recently starred on TV in the miniseries ‘Shots Fired’ and ‘Seven Seconds’, and also has an extensive catalogue of film appearances including ‘Semper Fi’, ‘American Skin’, ‘The Nice Guys’ and ‘Super 8’.

Gonzalez, Montano, and Knapp join Zukerman and previously announced cast, Eddie Izzard and Valorie Curry.

The pilot comes from Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie, co-creators of the ‘Scream’ tv-series and short-lived drama ‘The Crossing’. Daniel Cerone, who created ‘Motive’ and developed the ‘Constantine’ tv series, was originally attached to the drama, but left at some point during the development process. Dworkin and Beattie exec produce alongside Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, who were behind the Tom Hank’s led ‘Da Vinci Code’ movie franchise, via their Imagine Television Studios. CBS TV Studios and Universal Television co-produce the series.

‘Langdon’ is currently only a pilot order, so may not yet move forward. As with almost all pilots this year, filming was delayed due to the global pandemic, however, NBC are planning on shooting five new pilots before the end of the year. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
