‘Raising Dion’ Adds 4 New Cast To Season 2

Netflix’s comic book adaptation Raising Dion will be adding four new faces to the cast when it returns for Season 2, including Rome Flynn, Aubriana Davis, Tracey Bonner and Josh Ventura.

‘Raising Dion’ follows the story of a Nicole (Alisha Wainwright – ‘Shadowhunters’), who raises her son Dion (newcomer Ja’Siah Young) after the death of her husband, Mark (Michael B. Jordan – ‘Black Panther’). The normal dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest several mysterious, superhero-like abilities. Nicole must now keep her son’s gifts secret with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat (Jason Ritter – ‘The Event’, ‘Gravity Falls’), and protect Dion from antagonists out to exploit him while figuring out the origin of his abilities.

The new cast joining for season 2 sees Rome Flynn take the role of Tevin, Dion’s new trainer & mentor. Flynn is probably best known for playing Gabriel Maddox in ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ and David in Netflix’s ‘Dear White People’.

Aubriana Davis plays Janelle a 15-year-old whose mother (played by Tracey Bonner) brings her to biotech company BIONA to manage “behavioural issues.” Davis starred as Young Erma in Nat Geo’s ‘Genius: Aretha’ series, whilst Bonner played Lawanda White (mother of Darnell) in ‘Black Lightning’, and also starred in Netflix’s ‘Sweet Magnolias’ series.

Josh Ventura will play David, BIONA’s new V.P. of Operations. Ventura recently starred in Starz’ ‘P-Valley’ drama, along with popping up in shows such as ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘Dynasty’, ‘MacGyver’ and ‘Nashville’.

Season 2 will be a little shorter than Season 1, with only 8-hourlong episodes. Carol Barbee (‘UnREAL’, ‘Jericho’, ‘Touch’) is set to return as showrunner/executive producer, alongside Michael B. Jordan through his Outlier Society Productions, Michael Green (‘American Gods’, ‘Logan’), Charles D. King, and Kenny Goodman. The drama is the brainchild of commercial and music video director Dennis Liu, who created the comic book and directed the short film, which became a viral hit. He also serves as exec producer.

The series worked well for Netflix, being the most popular kids and family series in 2019 for the streamer, along with ranking 10th most popular series overall. The drama was renewed for Season 2 back in January last year, with a plan to shoot it in 2020… But of course, COVID… However, it seems production is now back underway.

Raising Dion‘ Season 1 can be watched right now on Netflix UK and around the world, with Season 2 hopefully dropping later in 2021.
