‘Doctor Who’: New Season Gets Trailer & October UK Premiere On BBC One. The Flux is Coming…

by Dave Elliott

Doctor Who will return this October as the BBC reveals a new little teaser trailer, along with the announcement that the season will have a subtitle, ‘Doctor Who: Flux’

This new season will be a little different to the previous ones. Rather than a “monster of the week” with a season-long story in the background, this will be a shorter, six-episode run with one over-arching story. The Doctor will then return at some point around New Year’s Day for a festive special. That will be followed by another special later in Spring 2022, with Jodie’s final feature-length special, where the Thirteenth Doctor will regenerate, transmitting in Autumn 2022 as part of the BBC’s Centenary celebrations.

The little trailer doesn’t give away much, but does reveal “the Flux is coming…” and that it will bring with it “Sontarans, Weeping Angels, creatures known as ‘The Ravangers’ and enemies from across the universe!” So… it seems Chris Chibnall has broken out the Who toy box in a major way for his and Jodie Whittaker’s swansong on the drama, before Russell T. Davies retakes the helm in 2023 alongside another actor as the famed timelord.

We do know the series will have a couple of new faces this year, and where events will kick-off. Series thirteen will begin in Liverpool, where we first meet new character Dan Lewis (played by John Bishop), as he becomes embroiled in the Doctor’s adventures. Also joining the show is Game Of Thrones’ star Jacob Anderson as a character called “Vinder”. Mandip Gill is the last member of the original “Fam”, who is set to return as Yaz, following the departure last season of Graham and Ryan.

Doctor Who: Flux‘ will premiere Sunday, 31st October 2021 (time TBC) on BBC One in the UK.
