Geektown Awards – British TV Show of the Year

We return for part two of The 10th Annual Geektown Awards, and begin this half with ‘British TV Show of the Year’. It has been a great year for British produced tv shows, from one-off dramas to continuing series, with some brilliant award-winning shows to battle it out. Here is what you voted for.

British TV Show of the Year

Nominees: Bloodlands – BBC, Call The Midwife (Season 10) – BBC, Doctor Who: Flux – BBC, It’s A Sin – Channel 4, Line of Duty (Season 6) – BBC, Manhunt: The Night Stalker – ITV, Professor T – ITV, The Outlaws – BBC, Vigil – BBC

Bronze: Doctor Who: Flux – BBC

Silver: It’s A Sin – Channel 4

And the Gold goes to …

Winner: Line of Duty (Season 6) – BBC

Once again, Jed Mercurio’s critically acclaimed BBC drama Line Of Duty walks away with the gold, picking up its second virtual statuette of this year’s Geektown Awards. It also did it with a very convincing lead, taking over a third more of the votes than ‘It’s A Sin’, which picks up the silver, and both shows managed to push the traditional juggernaut of ‘Doctor Who’ into the bronze position.

The sixth season delved into a year-long unsolved murder investigation when new information came to light about a possible suspect. DCI Joanne Davidson, played by Kelly Macdonald (‘Boardwalk Empire’, ‘Trainspotting’), appeared keen to finally bring Gail Vella’s killer to justice. However, after her conduct aroused suspicions, it’s not long before AC-12 were on the case. But as AC-12’s investigation uncovered deeper and darker information, it pointed to DCI Joanne Davidson possibly turning out to be their most dangerous adversary…

Whilst the status of a potential 7th Season is currently unclear, the rest of the cast are keeping busy on other projects. Adrian Dunbar is set to star in new ITV detective drama, Ridley, written by RTS award-winning writer Paul Matthew Thompson. Martin Compston popped up in BBC’s miniseries ‘Vigil’, and is next due to appear on Amazon’s six-part epic original thriller The Rig, opposite ‘Game of Thrones’ star Iain Glen. Meanwhile, Vicky McClure is returning to the police force in ITV’s Trigger Point, and four-part thriller, ‘Without Sin’, also on ITV.
