Premieres Coming To Disney+ UK In May 2022

by Dave Elliott

We’re heading into May, which means Star Wars Day is coming, and Disney+ UK is there to help celebrate with a couple of new offerings, alongside the much-anticipated arrival of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’. The month also brings a bunch of new FX and Hulu content including Amy Schumer’s ‘Life & Beth’, ‘How I Met Your Father’, and Sex Pistols limited series, ‘Pistol’. In addition, there are films in the form of ‘Sneakerella’, and the return of ‘Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers’. Here is a breakdown of the new shows coming to Disney+ UK next month.

Disney+ Originals & UK Exclusive May Highlights

Disney Gallery: The Book of Boba Fett – 4th May 2022

As it is May the 4th (be with you) aka “Star Wars Day”, Disney+ are releasing a couple of Star Wars related things to celebrate. The first is ‘Disney Gallery: The Book of Boba Fett’, which takes an unprecedented look at the making of the series about the legendary bounty hunter.

Lego Star Wars All-Stars – 4th May 2022

The second Star Wars series dropping on Star Wars Day is ‘Lego Star Wars All-Stars’, an animated series featuring LEGO versions of the latest heroes and villains of the Star Wars galaxy alongside iconic characters including Kylo Ren, R2-D2, Young Han, Chewie, Young Lando, BB-8, and General Leia.

How I Met Your Father, Season 1 – 11th May 2022

The spin-off from the hugely popular ‘How I Met Your Mother’, set in the near future, where Sophie is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the present where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options. Hilary Duff stars.

Sneakerella (Film) – 13th May 2022

In this high-energy, music-driven Cinderella story – El, an aspiring sneaker designer from Queens, works as a stock boy in a shoe store and hides his talent. Sparks fly after a chance encounter with Kira King, a Manhattan Princess Charming of sorts. With a nudge from his best friend and a sprinkle of magic, El finds the courage to lace up and dream big.

Life & Beth, Season 1 – 18th May 2022

‘Life & Beth’ tells the story of Beth (Amy Schumer), a woman whose life would look pretty great on paper. Impressive to everyone she grew up with, she makes a good living as a wine distributor, she’s in a long-term relationship with a successful guy and lives in Manhattan. When a sudden incident forces Beth to engage with her past, her life changes forever…

Grown-ish, Season 4 – 18th May 2022

‘Grown-ish’ follows Zoey Johnson as she heads to college and begins her hilarious journey to adulthood. From “black-ish” executive producer, Kenya Barris, comes a contemporary take on the current issues facing both students and administrators in the world of higher education.

Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers (Film) – 20th May 2022

In ‘Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers’, Chip and Dale are living amongst cartoons and humans in modern-day Los Angeles, but their lives are quite different now. It has been decades since their successful television series was cancelled, and Chip (voice of John Mulaney) has succumbed to a life of suburban domesticity as an insurance salesman. Dale (voice of Andy Sandberg), meanwhile, has had CGI surgery and works the nostalgia convention circuit, desperate to relive his glory days. When a former castmate mysteriously disappears, Chip and Dale must repair their broken friendship and take on their Rescue Rangers detective personas once again to save their friend’s life.

Wu-Tang: An American Saga, Season 1 – 25th May 2022

‘Wu-Tang: An American Saga’ is inspired by “The Wu-Tang Manual” and “Tao of Wu”, and based on the true story of the Wu-Tang Clan. Set in early ’90s New York at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic, the show tracks the Clan’s formation, a vision of Bobby Diggs aka The RZA, who unites the men torn between music and crime but eventually rise to become the unlikeliest of American success stories.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Parts I and II – 27th May 2022

‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. The series stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader.

Pistol – 31st May 2022

https://youtu.be/8Ol1B3w7NtU

‘Pistol’ is a six-episode limited series about a rock and roll revolution. The furious, raging storm at the centre of this revolution are the Sex Pistols – and at the centre of this series is Sex Pistols’ founding member and guitarist, Steve Jones. Jones’ hilarious, emotional and at times heartbreaking journey guides us through a kaleidoscopic telling of three of the most epic, chaotic and mucus-spattered years in the history of music. Based on Jones’ memoir Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol, this is the story of a band of spotty, noisy, working-class kids with “no future,” who shook the boring, corrupt Establishment to its core, threatened to bring down the government and changed music and culture forever.

Other Notable Additions On Disney+ UK This Month

Alongside the various Originals and UK exclusives, there are, of course, more tv boxsets and films being added to the streaming service for you to rewatch, or see for the first time.

TV boxsets this month add a slew of shows for you to catch up on which you may have missed elsewhere. ‘Good Trouble’ Season 3 lands on the service, alongside ‘American Crime Story’ Seasons 1 and 2, plus ‘Mayans M.C.’ Season 3 and ‘Snowfall’ Season 4, all of which have previously aired on the BBC. They are also adding all 12 Seasons of the critically acclaimed police drama ‘NYPD Blue’.

On the film side, if you’re a Jason Statham fan, ‘The Transporter’ and ‘The Transporter 2’ will both be available for streaming, and for Martin Lawrence fans, all three of the ‘Big Momma’s House’ movies drop onto the service. You can also find the superhero film ‘Daredevil’, 2008 sci-fi movie ‘Jumper’, and Jim Carrey’s ‘Bruce Almighty’. If you’re looking for something a little more cerebral, you can catch A. A. Milne biographical drama ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’.
