‘Bosch’: Amazon Has Two Possible Spin-Offs In Development

Amazon Studios are looking to extend Bosch into a larger franchise, as it’s revealed they are working on two possible spin-offs for the Titus Welliver-led crime series.

Based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling novel series, the original ‘Bosch’ ran for seven seasons on Prime Video and starred Titus Welliver as homicide detective Harry Bosch. This then morphed into a new show, ‘Bosch: Legacy’, which is running on Amazon Freevee, and follows Bosch as he embarks on the next chapter of his career where he finds himself working with his one-time enemy and top-notch attorney Honey “Money” Chandler.

The first potential spin-off would bring back another familiar face, Bosch’s former partner, detective Jerry Edgar, who is tapped for an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami. In this glamorous city, he is forced to balance his new life with the gritty underbelly of the city, while being chased by his mysterious past. Jamie Hector, who played the role on the original series, is in talks to return should this get picked up.

The second possible spin-off would focus on the character of Renee Ballard, who has yet to show up in either of the ‘Bosch’ tv series, but has been the focus of a number of books set in Connelly’s ‘Bosch’ novel universe. Detective Renee Ballard is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division. Beyond simply investigating unsolved crimes, Renee is dedicated to bringing credibility to the department and justice to the community. Having learned from retired ally and mentor Harry Bosch, Renee does things her way – solving cases in unconventional ways while navigating the politics of being a woman on the rise in the LAPD.

The currently airing series, ‘Bosch: Legacy’, was renewed for season two by Amazon Freevee before the first episode of the drama even aired on the free streaming service. It has yet to be decided whether the spin-offs would go to Prime Video or Freevee should they get ordered to series.

Amazon is the latest US broadcaster this week looking to expand their existing properties out into larger franchises. A few days ago, we were told that Showtime/Paramount were looking to expand ‘Dexter’ with prequel series, ‘Dexter: Origins’, and was also considering other possible spin-offs. They also revealed they had four possible spin-off shows in the works for their other hit series ‘Billions’.

Both shows come from Fabel Entertainment who were/are behind ‘Bosch’ and ‘Bosch: Legacy’. Michael Connelly would exec produce on both spin-offs, joined by Fabel’s Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate, and co-executive producer Jasmine Russ. Larry Andries would also EP the J Edgar series, whilst Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood would EP the Renee Ballard drama.

Both of these spin-offs are “in development”, so may not go to series, but we’ll let you know when we hear more. In the meantime, ‘Bosch: Legacy‘ Season 1 can be found on Amazon Freevee, with a second season due later this year. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
