Netflix Orders ‘Scott Pilgrim The Anime’ With Film Cast Returning To Voice Characters

by Dave Elliott

Netflix has ordered Scott Pilgrim The Anime, a brand-new series based on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s hit comics, with the cast of Edgar Wright’s 2010 cult movie ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ returning to voice the characters, and Wright exec producing.

The new series comes from anime house Science SARU and brings Scott Pilgrim, along with Ramona Flowers and her Seven Evil Exes, back to life. Created, written and executive produced by O’Malley himself, alongside BenDavid Grabinski (‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’), the series sees the entire cast of the original film reprise their roles.

That includes Michael Cera as Scott, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, Alison Pill as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Johnny Simmons as young Neil, Mark Webber as Stephen Stills, Ellen Wong as Knives Chau, with Satya Bhabha, Chris Evans, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman and Mae Whitman as the Evil Exes.

“We’re getting the band back together!” commented O’Malley and Grabinski. “We can’t wait for fans and newcomers alike to see what we and our partners at Science SARU have been cooking up. It’s going to be a wild ride.”

Author and artist of the comic books, Bryan Lee O’Malley, and BenDavid Grabinski serve as executive producers, writers and showrunners. Edgar Wright, who directed and co-wrote the original movie, also serves as executive producer.

“One of the proudest and most enjoyable achievements of my career was assembling and working with the dynamite cast of Scott Pilgrim,” adds Wright. “Since the film’s release in 2010, we’ve done Q&A’s, remembrances and charity read-throughs, but there was never the occasion to reunite the whole gang on an actual project until now. Original creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, along with writer BenDavid Grabinski, have conjured up an anime series of Scott Pilgrim that doesn’t just expand the universe, but also… well, just watch it. I’m more than happy to announce that I have helped coax the entire original cast back to voice their characters on this epic new adventure. You are in for a treat.”

Scott Pilgrim The Anime‘ does not yet have a premiere date, but will air on Netflix worldwide. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
