‘Étoile’: Gilmore Girls/Mrs. Maisel Palladino Duo Land 2 Season Order For Ballet Drama

If you were wondering what the people behind the spectacular ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ were going to do next, we have our answer! The Emmy-winning creators, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, have been given a two-season order by Prime Video for Étoile, a dramedy set at a ballet company.

Set in New York City and Paris, the series follows the dancers and artistic staff of two world-renowned ballet companies, as they embark on an ambitious gambit to save their storied institutions by swapping their most talented stars. For those of you wondering about the title, ‘Étoile’ is a principal dancer in a ballet company.

“Amy and Dan are brilliant creators of remarkable and enduring characters and one-of-a-kind storytelling,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon and MGM Studios. “We’re incredibly excited for Étoile, as we have no doubt Amy, Dan, and their team will continue to produce incredible and impactful event television that we can’t wait to share with our global Prime audiences.”

The cast for the series includes Luke Kirby, who won an Emmy for his work as Lenny Bruce on ‘Maisel’; Tony-nominated Broadway, film and tv star Gideon Glick who appeared in ‘Maisel’ as the magician “Alfie”, along with popping up ‘Ocean’s 8’, ‘The Detour’, and ‘Devious Maids’; ‘Call My Agent!’ stand-out star Camille Cottin, who also appeared in ‘Killing Eve’; French actress Lou de Laâge (‘The Innocents’, ‘Julia(s)’); Dancer and Tony-winning actor David Alvarez, who appeared in Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’, along with the tv show ‘American Rust’; And the legendary British actor Simon Callow who you’ll know from being in everything from ‘Doctor Who’ to ‘Hawkeye’, and ‘Outlander’ to ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’.

“Well, guess that plan for early retirement will have to wait,” joked the Palladinos. “Instead, we’ve decided to embark on an international journey with an unbelievable group of players and the most talented ballet dancers in the world. We will sleep when we’re dead.”

Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino direct, write and exec produce ‘Étoile’ under their overall deal with Amazon Studios. Star Gideon Glick will also write on the series. Dhana Rivera Gilbert also exec produces, with Scott Ellis as co-executive producer.
