‘The Ark’: Sky Sci-Fi Set June UK Premiere Date Drama From ‘Stargate’ Creators
After shifting a couple of times, Sky Sci-Fi has finally locked in a June UK premiere for ‘The Ark‘, a new sci-fi drama from ‘Stargate SG-1’ co-creator Jonathan Glassner, and Dean Devlin (‘Stargate’ film, ‘The Librarians’, ‘Leverage’).
‘The Ark’ takes place 100 years in the future when planetary colonization missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race. The first of these missions on a spacecraft known as Ark One encounters a catastrophic event causing massive destruction and loss of life. With more than a year left to go before reaching their target planet, a lack of life-sustaining supplies and loss of leadership, the remaining crew must become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and survive.
The series stars Christie Burke (‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’), Richard Fleeshman (‘Coronation Street’, ‘The Sandman’), Reece Ritchie (‘The Outpost’, ‘Rellik’), Stacey Read and Ryan Adams. Christina Wolfe (‘Batwoman’), Pavle Jerinic (‘The Outpost’), Shalini Peiris (‘Lockwood & Co’, ‘Danny and Mick’), and Tiana Upcheva (‘The Outpost’) also star.
The drama, which began airing in February in the USA on Syfy, has been a big success for the broadcaster. The series premiere landed the best in total viewers (1.1 million) since January 2021 (‘Resident Alien’) and came top in the 18-49 demo since October 2021 (‘Day of the Dead’). This led to the show being renewed for Season 2 back in April.
Devlin and Glassner are co-showrunners and executive producers alongside Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson of Electric Entertainment. Jonathan English of Balkanic Media and Steve Lee serve as producers.
If you’re thinking you’ve seen this before, you are correct. The series was originally announced as picked up by Sky Sci-fi in April, with an April premiere date for the UK. However, Sky then made a last-minute change, and it moved to a date in May… and then moved again… only recently resurfacing on the schedule… I’m told this new June date is confirmed and locked in and will not move again!
‘The Ark‘ Season 1 will premiere on Tuesday, 13 June 2023 at 9pm with a double bill, and run two episodes weekly.
