‘The Ark’ Renewed For Season 2 As Season 1 Get UK Premiere Date

Just hours after we got the news that The Ark, a brand new sci-fi drama from the people behind ‘Stargate’, would be coming to the UK on Sky Sci-Fi, the US network Syfy announced the series would return for Season 2!

‘The Ark’ takes place 100 years in the future when planetary colonization missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race. The first of these missions on a spacecraft known as Ark One encounters a catastrophic event causing massive destruction and loss of life. With more than a year left to go before reaching their target planet, a lack of life-sustaining supplies and loss of leadership, the remaining crew must become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and survive.

The series stars Christie Burke (‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’), Richard Fleeshman (‘Coronation Street’, ‘The Sandman’), Reece Ritchie (‘The Outpost’, ‘Rellik’), Stacey Read and Ryan Adams. Christina Wolfe (‘Batwoman’), Pavle Jerini? (‘The Outpost’), Shalini Peiris (‘Lockwood & Co’, ‘Danny and Mick’), and Tiana Upcheva (‘The Outpost’) also star.

The drama, which comes from Dean Devlin (‘Independence Day’, ‘Stargate’) and Jonathan Glassner (‘Stargate SG-1’), has been a big success for Syfy in the USA, with the series premiere landing the best in total viewers (1.1 million) since January 2021 (‘Resident Alien’) and coming top in the 18-49 demo since October 2021 (‘Day of the Dead’).

“The success of ‘The Ark’ is just another example of delivering on a promise to provide a wide spectrum of quality shows across our linear, cable and streaming portfolios,” said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Programming, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “Heading into space with Dean and Jonathan has truly been a trip worth taking and we’re tremendously excited about how this otherworldly adventure will continues in season two.”

Devlin and Glassne are co-showrunners and executive producers alongside Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson of Electric Entertainment. Jonathan English of Balkanic Media and Steve Lee serve as producers.

We couldn’t be more excited to get back into space with the crew of the Ark. SYFY continues to be an amazing partner and home for this series,” add Devlin and Glassner.

The Ark‘ Season 1 was due to premiere on Sky Sci-Fi this April, but it seems there has been a last-minute change, and it has been moved… Which is frustrating… We’ll post again when it reappears on the schedule. The drama is currently airing on Syfy in the USA.

UPDATE 17/04/23: According to the show’s co-creator, Dean Devlin,  ‘The Ark‘ Season 1 has been confirmed as airing Thursday, 25th May 2023 on Sky Sci-Fi.
