Disney+ has released the official trailer and set the January 2024 premiere date for Marvel Studios ‘Echo‘ miniseries, which sees Alaqua Cox return in the title role, alongside Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin… And for those of you concerned Disney would be toning down the violence in these street-level shows, fear not…
Alaqua Cox (“Hawkeye”) stars as the unforgiving Maya Lopez, who made her MCU debut in 2021 in Marvel Studios’ “Hawkeye” as a deaf gang leader who was determined to make Ronin (aka Clint Barton) pay for his own vengeful deeds. Although the series largely takes place after the events of “Hawkeye,” this will also act as an origin story that revisits Lopez, whose ruthless behaviour in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.
‘Echo’ is the first “Mature Audience” rated show direct from the Disney/Marvel MCU. We did have the rather more violent Marvel/Netflix series previously, however, they were not created under the current model.
“Echo” also stars Chaske Spencer (“Wild Indian,” “The English”), Tantoo Cardinal (“Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Stumptown”), Devery Jacobs (FX’s “Reservation Dogs,” “American Gods”) and Cody Lightning (“Hey, Viktor!” “Four Sheets to the Wind”), with Graham Greene (“1883,” “Goliath”) and Zahn McClarnon (“Dark Winds,” FX’s “Reservation Dogs”).
The drama is directed by Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie. Marion Dayre (‘Better Call Saul’) is head writer. It is executive produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Stephen Broussard, Richie Palmer, Marion Dayre, Jason Gavin, Amy Rardin, Sydney Freeland, Christina King and Jennifer Booth.
‘Echo‘ premieres Wednesday, 10th January 2024 on Disney+ UK and worldwide with all episodes landing as a boxset for you to binge through. For those of you in the USA, it will also premiere on Hulu along with Disney+ on the same date.
