The BBC is bolstering its boxsets on iPlayer as the UK broadcaster announces it has acquired the UK rights to NBC’s upcoming medical comedy St. Denis Medical, the miniseries ‘The Best Man: The Final Chapters’, and all nine seasons of the hit drama ‘Suits’.

Set in a New York City law firm, ‘Suits’ stars Patrick J. Adams (Old School) as Mike Ross, who uses his photographic memory to talk his way into a job as an associate working for successful ‘closer’ Harvey Spector, played by Gabriel Macht (Love & Other Drugs), despite being a college dropout who never attended law school. Together they win lawsuits and close cases, while at the same time hiding Mike’s secret. Suits boasts a stellar ensemble cast which also includes Gina Torres (Westworld), Sarah Rafferty (Brothers & Sisters), Rick Hoffman (Billions), Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy), and Meghan Markle.

‘Suits’, which ended in 2019, has been going through something of a revival recently thanks to people binging their way through the drama on Netflix. The renewed interest has spurred NBC to order a spin-off pilot, ‘Suits: LA’, which stars Arrow’s Stephen Amell, from original series creator Aaron Korsh.

‘St. Denis Medical’ is a new workplace comedy set in an underfunded and understaffed Oregon hospital. At St. Denis Medical Centre, the dedicated doctors and nurses are trying their best to treat patients whilst maintaining their own sanity. The series stars Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs), Allison Tolman (Fargo), Josh Lawson (Superstore), Mekki Leeper (The Sex Lives of College Girls), Kaliko Kauahi (Superstore), Kahyun Kim (9-1-1), and David Alan Grier (The Color Purple).

The comedy is written and executive produced by ‘Superstore’ creator Justin Spitzer, along with Eric Ledgin (Superstore, American Auto). Simon Heuer (American Auto) is also executive producing. Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Superstore) serves as director and executive producer on the pilot.

Based on the eponymous Universal film franchise written and directed by Malcom D. Lee, ‘The Best Man: The Final Chapters’ catches up with Harper (Taye Diggs, All American), Robyn (Sanaa Lathan, Succession), Jordan (Nia Long, NCIS: Los Angeles), Lance (Morris Chestnut, Rosewood), Quentin (Terrence Howard, Empire), Shelby (Melissa De Sousa, Our Kind of People), Candace (Regina Hall, Nine Perfect Strangers), and Murch (Harold Perrineau, The Rookie). The series explores how each of their relationships have evolved and how past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance.

‘The Best Man: The Final Chapters’ is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. The series is executive produced by Malcolm D. Lee, Dayna Lynne North, Dominique Telson and Sean Daniel.

All three titles have been acquired by the BBC from NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution.

St. Denis Medical‘ Season 1, ‘Suit’ Seasons 1-9 and ‘The Best Man: The Final Chapters’ will all air as boxsets on BBC iPlayer, although we don’t yet have dates for them. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
